CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS FINISH 3RD, 5TH IN RWU INVITATIONAL
BRISTOL, R.I. – Emmanuel’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams competed in the 5k Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday at Colt State Park. The Emmanuel women finished 3rd out of 11 competing teams, while the Saints men ran 5th out of eight teams. Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) earned a spot on the podium, with his top-ten finish, running 8th overall to lead the Saints.
BRISTOL, R.I. – Emmanuel's Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed in the 5k Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday at Colt State Park. The Emmanuel women finished 3rd out of 11 competing teams, while the Saints men ran 5th out of eight teams. Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) earned a spot on the podium, with his top-ten finish, running 8th overall to lead the Saints.
The meet began with the women's race and Emmanuel's leader was once again Senior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.). Metivier placed 16th out of the field of 131 competitors, crossing the line in 21:20. Sophomore Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) finished just six seconds behind the Emmanuel leader, running 21st overall. Senior Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) clocked a 21:30 race to place 3rd for the Saints and 24th overall. Sophomores Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) and Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) rounded out the top five for the Emmanuel women with times of 21:42 and 22:17, respectively.
On the men's side, Colford's 8th place finish was a team best. The sophomore transfer crossed the line third among all Division III runners and finished just behind his former Franklin Pierce teammates, who took four of the top five spots. Colford's 5k time was 16:45 (5:23 per mile).
Earning Emmanuel's second scoring position was junior Christopher Connelly (Quincy, Mass.), who finished 32nd overall in 17:38. Senior captain Mike Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) ran third for the Saints in 17:45. Freshman Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) turned in a time of 17:47 to take Emmanuel's fourth spot. Senior Pat Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) raced in the Saints' fifth scoring spot with a time of 18:05.
Both the Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams will train over the next two weeks and race again on Saturday, September 21st, at Gordon College's Pop Crowell Invitational. The women's meet is scheduled to begin at 10:45 AM and the men's race will begin at 11:30 AM in Wenham, Mass.
