RAIN CAN'T SLOW SAINTS AT POP CROWELL INVITE
WENHAM, Mass. - The Emmanuel Cross Country Teams competed in a rainy Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday morning. Despite the muddy conditions, the Saints faired very well and ran much faster times than in prior years at the same race. The Emmanuel men placed 10th as a team out of 25 competing programs, while the Emmanuel women ran 14th out of 27 teams.
WENHAM, Mass. – The Emmanuel Cross Country Teams competed in a rainy Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday morning. Despite the muddy conditions, the Saints faired very well and ran much faster times than in prior years at the same race. The Emmanuel men placed 10th as a team out of 25 competing programs, while the Emmanuel women ran 14th out of 27 teams.
Junior Pat Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) led the Emmanuel men, cutting nearly six minutes off his race time from 2011. Callan ran the 8k in 28:13 to finish 53rd out of the field of 275 total runners. Classmates Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and Michael Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) ran a close second and third for the Saints, finishing in 28:36.1 and 28:36.3, respectively, for 62nd and 63rd place overall. Bruno lowered his Pop Crowell time by almost a minute and Morris cut 27 seconds off his time from last year.
Fellow junior Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) scored fourth for the Saints and 65th overall with his time of 28:44. Sophomore Christopher Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) finished fifth for Emmanuel with his scoring time of 29:21, a minute and a half quicker than last year.
The Emmanuel women were once again paced by senior captain Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.), who lowered her time by half a minute to finish the 3.05 mile course in 20:08, good for 44th place out of a 317-runner field. Freshman Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) was the second racer to cross the line for the Saints. Roberts ran 65th with her time of 20:37. Classmate Janelle Winship (Prospect, Me.) took the third spot for Emmanuel with a time of 21:07. Juniors Amy DeNuzzio (Windham, N.H.) and Danielle Martin (York, Me.) rounded out the top five for the Saints, running just one second apart and finishing in 21:17 and 21:18, respectively.
The Saints will compete next on October 14th at the USA Track & Field Invitational, held at Lars Anderson Park in Brookline, Mass.
