SAINTS COMPETE AT 40TH ANNUAL SHRINERS INVITATIONAL
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams competed in the highly competitive Shriners Invitational Meet on Saturday, hosted by the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. The Saints ran extremely well, competing against several of the nation’s top programs. The Emmanuel women finished 22nd overall, out of a 38-team field, while the Saints men ran their top average time and finished 23rd out of 39 competing teams.
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed in the highly competitive Shriners Invitational Meet on Saturday, hosted by the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. The Saints ran extremely well, competing against several of the nation's top programs. The Emmanuel women finished 22nd overall, out of a 38-team field, while the Saints men ran their top average time and finished 23rd out of 39 competing teams.
Senior captain Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) paced the women for the third consecutive week. DelSignore ran her personal best 5k, cutting over a minute off her time from last week. DelSignore's time of 20:11 put her 90th overall. DelSignore was closely followed by junior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.), who finished in 20:35.
Three rookies then took the final scoring positions for the Saints. Freshman Janelle Winship (Prospect, Me.) crossed the line just seven seconds behind Metivier and scored third for the Saints in a time of 20:42. Fellow rookie Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) followed Winship and placed fourth for the Saints in a time of 21:08. Freshman Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) was the fifth scorer for Emmanuel and crossed the line in 21:21. All five Emmanuel scorers ran than their new personal records.
The Emmanuel men also posted a stellar day in North Dartmouth. The average time for the top six Emmanuel men set a new program record low. The five scorers all finished within thirty seconds of each other. The Saints ran a course just short of 5 miles (4.91) and were led by junior Pat Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) and senior Abdi Ibrahim (East Boston, Mass.). The duo ran their personal bests, finishing in 27:20 and 27:23, respectively.
Junior Michael Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) finished third for the Saints, just ten seconds back from Ibrahim in 27:33. Juniors Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) came in at 27:39 and 27:47 to round out the top five for the Saints. Last week's conference rookie of the week, Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) placed 6th for Emmanuel with a time of 29:03.
The Saints will take this coming weekend off and will return to action on Saturday, September 29th, when they travel to Wenham, Mass. for Gordon College's Pop Crowell Invitational.
