BRISTOL, R.I. - Senior captain Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Pat Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) paced the Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams for the second straight week Saturday, leading the Saints past Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)defending champion Johnson & Wales University at the 2012 Roger Williams University Invitational at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI.
BRISTOL, R.I. - Senior captain Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Pat Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) paced the Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams for the second straight week Saturday, leading the Saints past Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)defending champion Johnson & Wales University at the 2012 Roger Williams University Invitational at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI.
DelSignore traversed the 5K course in a time of 21:22, good for 10th place overall. The Saints ran well as a pack as junior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.), freshmen Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) and Janelle Winship (Prospect, Me.) and junior Danielle Martin (York, Me.) all finished under 23 minutes, running within 24 seconds of each other to close out the Saints' scoring. Freshman Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) and sophomore Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) ran 6th and 7th for Emmanuel in 22:52 and 23:12, respectively.
The Emmanuel women finished fifth overall with 126 points. Connecticut College finished first with 34 points, followed by host Roger Williams University (69), Wheaton College (81), Bridgewater State University (116), Emmanuel, Umass Dartmouth (128) and Johnson & Wales University (137).
On the men's side, Callan guided Emmanuel to a 4th place team finish (87 points), as the Saints fell just two places shy of third-place finisher Umass Dartmouth. Bridgewater State University (34) and Roger Williams Univerity (52) took the top two spots on the day for the 5K race. Callan finished 11th overall in a time of 17:28, followed by senior captain Abdihakim Ibrahim (East Boston, Mass.) in 17:39. Fellow captain Michael Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) finished third for the Saints in 18:08 just ahead of Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) and Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.), who each ran the course in 18:09.
The Saints will be back in action next Saturday, September 15th at the 40th annual Shriners Invitational hosted by Umass Dartmouth. The men's race starts at 11:15 a.m., followed by the women at 12:00 p.m.
