Student-Athlete of the Week
March 28, 2011
Emmanuel College's Student-Athlete of the Week is three-sport athlete Nathan Bruno. Bruno, a native of Lenox, Massachusetts, is a freshman standout on the Saints Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Teams. After scoring for Emmanuel in several Cross Country meets last semester, Bruno has excelled in the hurdles and mid-distance events for both the Indoor and Outdoor Track programs.
In the opening meet of the outdoor track season, Bruno qualified for the Division III New England Championships, running a 57.66 in the 400-meter hurdles and placing 2nd at Northeastern University's Spring Open. He then lowered his time this past Saturday in the Saints' second meet of the season, qualifying the rookie for the ECAC Championships. Bruno won his 400-meter hurdle event with a program-record time of 56.15 at Westfield State's Gerry Gravel Classic.
Bruno also capped off a terrific Saturday as part of the men's 4 x 400 meter relay team, which took first place and qualified for Division III New Englands. Bruno ran a 52.03 second leg and the team combined for a new program-record time of 3:26.36.
Bruno and the Saints will compete next Saturday (April 2nd) at Fitchburg State University's Sheehan Memorial Invitational.
