EMMANUEL TRACK STARS SET MORE RECORDS AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Emmanuel College was well represented at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Moravian College on the Timothy Breidegam Track, on May 19th and 20th. Eight student-athletes qualified and competed for the Saints, representing their teams in three individual events and two relays.
Junior sprinter Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, Calif.) kicked off the events for the Emmanuel women with the 400 meter dash. Kulubya finished her one-lap sprint in 59.60, finishing 13th out of the field of 22 runners. Senior Andrew Heath (Stamford, Conn.) ran the same event on the men's side. Heath sprinted to a 14th place finish with a time of 49.92.
Freshman Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) represented Emmanuel with the Saints' third individual event. Bruno ran the 400 meter hurdles in a new school record time of 55.31, placing 10th out of 29 total competitors.
Both the Emmanuel men's and women's 4 x 400 meter relay teams qualified for the ECACs. The Emmanuel men ran 10th out of 25 teams, with a new school record time of 3:20.56. Heath led off the relay, followed by Bruno and Eric Donnelly (Halifax, Mass.), and anchored by senior Ben Cleveland (Auburn, Me.). Kulubya ran the lead for the Emmanuel women, followed by Julie Young (Derry, N.H.), Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.), and anchored by senior Irene Limlengco (Brookline, Mass.). The women also lowered their school record, finishing in 18th place, with a time of 4:08.19.
The Ithaca College women and Bates College men earned the team titles at the 2011 ECACs. Ithaca finished with 80.5 points in the two-day championship and was followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 77.5 points, Tufts University with 54 points and SUNY Cortland with 42 points. Bates earned 63 points over two days while Williams College was second with 48 points and followed by Ithaca with 43.5 points and host Moravian with 42 points.
