TRACK TEAMS BATTLE TOUGH COMPETITION, WEATHER AT SNOWFLAKE CLASSIC

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams competed in Tufts University's Snowflake Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Saints battled bitter weather, including wind, rain and at times a few snowflakes, making the meet worthy of its name. The meet included athletes spanning all three NCAA divisions, as the Saints held their own in numerous events. Among the standout performances was that of Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.).
Bruno, a sophomore sprinter, took first place in the men's 400 meter hurdles, topping fifteen other racers, including the second place finisher, representing Harvard University. Bruno's time, 54.61, set a new Emmanuel program record and qualified him for both the New England Division III Championships and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. Teammate Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) earned sixth place in the same event with a personal best time of 59.55.
Bruno and Thomas then teamed up with Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) and David Allen (Hull, Mass.) for the men's 4x400 meter relay. The quartet worked to a fourth place finish with a time of 3:29.55. Baker and Allen also set personal records individually. Baker finished his 800 meters in 2:02.27, while Allen when he ran his 400 meter race in 53.49 and his 200m in 24.12.
Sophomore Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) also had a personal best day, with a 24.11 time in the 200m. Senior distance runner Abdi Ibrahim (East Boston, Mass.) cruised to a PR in the 5000m, running a time of 16:47.15.
Sophomore Danielle Martin (York, Me.) had a solid day on the women's side. She PRed in two events, including a 5:34.98 time in the 1500 meters and a 32.54 sprint in the 200m. Junior Lauren Gogel (East Longmeadow, Mass.) also posted two PRs on the day with a 28.94 sprint in the 200m and a 68.69 in the 400m.
Senior thrower Maggie MacKay (Burlington, Mass.) launched the hammer her furthest, with a distance of 73'11.50". Junior Mitch Moise (Medford, Mass.) also had two of his best throws in the field events for the Saints. Moise recorded a personal best in the shotput (32'2.75") and a PR in the discus (70'5").

The Saints will compete again this Saturday at Fitchburg State University in the Sheehan Memorial Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00am.
