Saints Track & Field Opens Outdoor Year at Swanson Spring Classic
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - In their first outdoor meet of the 2023 season, the Saints men’s and women’s programs competed in the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic, with one Saints pole vaulter rewriting the record books on Sunday.

THE LEAD – In their first outdoor meet of the 2023 season, the Saints men's and women's programs competed in the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic, with one Saints pole vaulter rewriting the record books on Sunday.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- A trifecta of third place finishes for three different Saints were earned on Sunday afternoon in the J. Elmer Swanson Classic, all tied for the best finishes of the day.
- First-year Paula Salazar (Cumberland, R.I.) scored a third place finish in the pole vault, setting a program record in the event after clearing the bar at 2.65 meters.
- Senior Elizabeth Cameron (Raynham, Mass.) placed third in the 5,000 meter event, running the 5k in 20:12.72. The finishing time set a new PR for Cameron in her outdoor career of on-track 5k's.
- Sophomore Desiree Robinson (New Haven, Conn.) came in third place in the high jump, setting a PR after clearing the bar at 1.53 meters, marking the first time Robinson has successfully jumped over the bar at 5 feet or higher.
- The final third place finish of the day for the women's program came in the 4x800 meter relay, as the team of Cameron, junior Emma Krantz (Manchester, N.H.), and first-years Sydney Gonzalez (Guilderland, N.Y.) and Emily Greene (Swansea, Mass.) combined for a time of 11:05.45 in the relay.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The best individual finish of the day on the men's side came with sophomore Michael Chudik (Acton, Mass.) picking up an eighth-place finish in the discus, following a throw of 34.34 meters.
- First-year Gus Fallah (Acton, Mass.) added a ninth place finish in the 100 meter dash, finishing the event in a time of 11.50 seconds.
- The men's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams scored fourth and eighth place finishes, respectively. The 100-meter team finished in a time of 46.71 while the 800-meter team completed the relay in 3:59.10.
