Women's Track & Field Captures 2022 GNAC Outdoor T&F Championship
NEW LONDON, N.H. - For the first time in program history, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track & Field championship trophy is coming home to 400 Fenway as the Emmanuel women’s program scored 244 team points, besting the field by 61 points to claim the program’s first outdoor title since the GNAC began hosting the spring championship back in 2018.

THE LEAD – For the first time in program history, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track & Field championship trophy is coming home to 400 Fenway as the Emmanuel women's program scored 244 team points, besting the field by 61 points to claim the program's first outdoor title since the GNAC began hosting the spring championship back in 2018.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The Saints picked up 10 first place finishes on the day with seven individual event wins and a clean sweep in the three relays. EC had nine runner up performances and seven third place finishers, totaling 26 events in which Emmanuel was up on the medalist podium for.
- First year A.J. Godios (Hamburg, N.Y.) was phenomenal recording several wins on the day including another school-record in the long jump at 5.17m. The Saints swept the event as fellow first-year Desiree Robinson (New Haven, Conn.) finished second with a leap of 4.95m followed by sophomore Beverly Browne (Amesbury, Mass.) in third with a jump of 4.90m.
- Robinson won the high jump clearing 1.52m and finished third in the triple jump.
- Godios also picked up a win in the 400m race with a time of 1:00.41, followed by Robinson in second place at 1:03.17. The duo finished first and third, respectively in the 200m event while Godios ran the 100m event in 13.28 seconds for a third place showing.
- Brown, Robinson, senior Haley Boisvert (Merrimack, N.H.) and Godios teamed up for a first place performance in the 4x100m relay with a time of 52.36 seconds.
- Boisvert, Robinson, Naomi Obenhaus (Sabattus, Maine) and Godios bested the field by almost five seconds in the 4x400m relay for another win.
- In the 4x800m race, Nicole Ruggiero (Peabody, Mass.), Deanna Ruggiero (Peabody, Mass.), Molly Winship (Boxford, Mass.) and Hannah Fitzpatrick (Revere, Mass.) clocked in at 11:01.37 for the win to sweep the relays.
- Fitzpatrick finished first in the 800m race with a time of 2:28.25 and first in the 3000m steeple clocking in at 12:32.71. She also finished second in the 1,500m event at 5:02.50.
- Senior Lauren Sterling (Rumford, Maine) finished second in both the 100m hurdles and high jump.
- Brown and Obenhaus also performed well in the pole vault, taking home second and third with Brown setting the Emmanuel record at 2.45 meters.
- In the throwing events, senior Caileigh Blackmer (Warwick, R.I.) took home the win in the hammer throw while first-year Alyssa French-Graham (Waterbury, Conn.) placed second in the discus. Sophomore Shakirah Ketant (Easton, Mass.) picked up a third place finish in the javelin while French-Graham was the highest EC finisher in the shot put in fourth.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The men's squad finished fourth on the day, scoring 56 points overall at the 2022 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship. 4 third – 1 second 2 third
- First year Joey Soucy (Attleboro, Mass.) picked up a second place finish in the 100m race with a time of 11.33 seconds. He also ran a leg in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that placed third overall. Joining him on the 4x100 relay was Luke Elson, Cole Hickey and Zachary Barown, clocking in at 45.67 seconds.
- Elson posted a pair of third place showings with a PR in the hammer throw (27.23m) as well as the 400m race, clocking in at 53.42 seconds.
- Senior captain Joey Reed (Rehoboth, Mass.) also snagged a third place finish in the triple jump with a final product of 12.16m.
- Despite a sixth place finish, sophomore Jorge Zapata (Parkland, Fla.) ran a PR time of 4:30.99 in the 1500m race and also PR'd in the 5000m event with a time of 19:06.07.
UP NEXT
- The GNAC Championship concludes the outdoor season for most of the Saints while Godios and Blackmer will compete next weekend as individuals at the New England Division III Championships at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
