SAINTS CONTINUE TO MAKE STRIDES AT SMITH PIONEER INVITATIONAL
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College outdoor track & field squad competed in its third tournament of the spring season Saturday afternoon at the Smith Pioneer Invitational. The Saints saw a new school record set by senior thrower Cameron Anderson (Watertown, Mass.) in the Shot Put and a New England DIII qualifying time from senior distance runner Ian Chemenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) in the Steeplechase.
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College outdoor track & field squad competed in its third tournament of the spring season Saturday afternoon at the Smith Pioneer Invitational. The Saints saw a new school record set by senior thrower Cameron Anderson (Watertown, Mass.) in the Shot Put and a New England DIII qualifying time from senior distance runner Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) in the Steeplechase.
The Saints ran well in both the women's and men's 1500m races where Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) placed third, running a personal best 5:14.28 and Erik Brobst (Freeport, Maine) ran a personal best 4:36.61, earning a sixth place finish.
In the sprints, the Saints had a strong showing. In the women's 100m Hurdle Carly Jones (Lake Placid, Mass.), Jacquelyn Schneider (Weymouth, Mass.), and Katherine Zombik (Holyoke, Mass.) all placed, finishing in fourth, fifth and seventh respectively. Schnieder also finished second in the 400m Hurdles with a personal best 75.57. Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) placed in the 100m finishing second with a 13.36 and she finished eighth in the 200m coming in at 28.32.
The Saints mid and distance runners decorated the leader board. Noah Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt.) ran a personal best 35:47.41 10k; the time earned him a second place finish. Chamenko ran the Steeplechase in 10:07.08 earning second place and a trip to the New England DIII Regionals and Patrick Carty (Sweeden, Maine), ran a personal best 10:32.20. Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) finished third in the 1500m with a 5:14.28, a personal best. In the men's 1500m Erik Brobst (Freeport, Maine) ran a personal best 4:36.61 that earned a sixth place finish.
Emmanuel's jumpers also saw success in the field, led by senior Ashley Brooks' (Danvers, Mass.) third place 4'10.25" jump. Carolyn Richardson (Kennebunk, Maine), Jones and Zombik all placed in the high jump. Anderson threw 42'7.5", setting a new Emmanuel College record in the Shot Put, leading the charge for all Saints throwers.
The Saints return to action on Saturday when the travel to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational.
