SAINTS POST SOLID SHOWING AT SILFEN INVITATIONAL
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Saints Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams put together a solid showing on Saturday afternoon at Connecticut College’s Silfen Invitational. Emmanuel athletes turned in four championship qualifiers and seven top-eight finishes, while sophomore Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) set a new program record.
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Saints Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams put together a solid showing on Saturday afternoon at Connecticut College's Silfen Invitational. Emmanuel athletes turned in four championship qualifiers and seven top-eight finishes, while sophomore Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) set a new program record.
Chamenko's finished 8th overall in the men's steeplechase with his new Emmanuel College program record time of 10:31.44. Chamenko bested the record time of teammate Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) set last season.
Senior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) and freshman Brian Uram (Westford, Mass.) both qualified for post-season competition in the men's 110mH, with each capturing their personal best times. Thomas finished 2nd with a time of 15.67 and qualified for the ECAC Championships. Uram raced to a 4th place finish with his Division III New England Championship qualifying time of 16.13. Thomas also notched a 6th place finish in the men's 400mH, crossing the line in 58.63.
Freshman Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.) posted another incredible week, as the rookie qualified for the Division III New Englands in the men's 400m. Tavares placed 5th overall with his 50.98 finish. He also snagged a PR in the men's 200m with his time of 23.59.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.), Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.), Sara Ciochetti (Watertown, Conn.) and Zoe Pierce Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) captured 6th place overall. The team also qualified for the Division III New Englands with their combined time of 53.68.
Both Costello and Katherine Zombik (Holyoke, Mass.) raced well in the women's 100mH. Zombik finished in 17.66, while Costello ran her PR time of 17.22.
Sophomore Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) led the Saints in the field with her 3rd place high jump of 5'0.25". Senior captain Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) ran down her personal record in the women's 800m, finishing in 2:35.91.
Emmanuel will compete again this Saturday, April 18th, when the Saints travel across the Charles River to Cambridge, Mass. for the MIT Invitational. The meet is slated to begin at 10:15 AM.
