SAINTS POST SOLID SHOWING AT BROWN INVITATIONAL
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams took on competitors from Division I, II and III colleges and universities at the Brown University Invitational meet on Saturday afternoon. The Saints were up to the challenge, as five new Emmanuel records were set and twenty-seven personal bests were recorded.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams took on competitors from Division I, II and III colleges and universities at the Brown University Invitational meet on Saturday afternoon. The Saints were up to the challenge, as five new Emmanuel records were set and twenty-seven personal bests were recorded.
The Emmanuel Saints ran a great one-mile event on Saturday. Records were set for both the men and women's programs. Senior captain Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) raced to a 5:57.14 finish, setting a new Emmanuel women's record. Freshman Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) sprinted to a new men's record with a time of 4:44.91. All of the other Emmanuel one-milers ran personal bests, including Hailey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.) with a time of 6:14.62, Michael Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) with a time of 4:50.21, Chris Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) with a time of 4:55.40, Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) with a time of 4:58.13 and Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) with a time of 5:30.19.
Junior Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) once again bettered her 3K steeplechase time with a 12:41.39 finish. Freshman Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) set a new Emmanuel men's record in the event with his time of 11:09.62.
Sophomore Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) was once again able to better his ECAC qualifying time in the 400 meter hurdles, this time recording his personal best with a finish in 55.75. Thomas is now ranked 48th nationally in this event. Junior Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) remains ranked 9th nationally in the 400mH. Bruno's time on Saturday at Brown was 54.37.
Thomas and Bruno were also part of the Saints' record-setting 4x100 meter relay team, along with Ben Perdue (West Springfield, R.I.) and Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.). The team sprinted to an Emmanuel record time of 44.16.
The Saints' 3K runners had a great day on the track, led by rookie Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.), who finished in an EC record time of 11:47.76. Danielle Martin (York, Me.) and Meaghan Reddy (Warwick, R.I.) both recorded personal best times of 11:56.92 and 12:32.84, respectively. On the men's side, freshman Max Bukowiec (York, Me.) finished in his PR time of 10:25.86.
Both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams bettered their post-season qualifying times. The women's team of Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.), Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.), Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) and Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) finished in 4:18.81 to improve on their New England Division III qualifying time. The men's team of Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.), Thomas, Bruno and David Allen (Hull, Mass.) finished in 3:21.95 to improve on their ECAC Championship qualifying time.
Senior captain Mitch Moise (Medford, Mass.) launched the shot put 33'8.50" for his personal record. Classmate Kyle Ford-Withrow (Boston, Mass.) recorded his PR in the hammer throw with a distance of 104'8".
The Emmanuel men and women will be back in action this Saturday in Cambridge, Mass., when they compete in the MIT Invitational.
