SAINTS COME OUT STRONG AT HARVARD OPEN
Dec. 15, 2008
ALLSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams stayed local on Saturday afternoon, running in their second meet of the season at the Harvard University Open. It was an impressive day for the Saints, considering they were competing against a number of highly competitive Division I and Division II schools. It was a pleasing day for one Emmanuel runner, who qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. Other Saints either set new records or earned their personal bests. Those who didn't achieve their personal best on Saturday missed it by only tenths of a second.
Senior Cathryn Lariviere (Windham, NH) led the Emmanuel women with her 5K, earning an ECAC qualifying time of 18:40.88. That makes her the second Emmanuel athlete to qualify for the ECAC Championship, so far this season. Freshman Britney Sorice (Dover, NH) also posted a fine performance, when she claimed the 800 meter record with a time of 2:38.28. The 4 X 400 meter relay team, which consisted of sophomores Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Milford, MA), Alison Lynch (Pawtucket, RI), Jessica Robinson (Holliston, MA) and Sorice set a new record with a time of 4:32.95. Freshman Victoria Cole (Carver, MA) ran her personal best in the 1 mile run with a time of 6:17.16. Fitzpatrick ran her personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 68.53. Freshman Hanna Fox (Biddeford, ME) ran her personal bests in the 60 meters and 200 meters.
On the men's side, sophomore Ben Cleveland (Auburn, ME) broke the 500 meter record with a time of 68.67. Freshman Maurizio Turco (Revere, MA) ran a smart mile, while achieving his personal best of 4:52.05. Freshman Wesley Cowles (Hebron, CT) earned his personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.59. Sophomore Jonathan Hardacker (Cromwell, CT) and junior Rob Littleton (Plymouth, MA) achieved their personal bests in the 400 meters. Freshman Andrew Heath (Stanford, CT), junior Dan D'Amato (Huntington, MA), freshman Nick O'Brien (Watertown, CT), and sophomore Thomas Ryan Maher (Gales Ferry, CT) ran their personal bests in the 200 meters.
