BRUNO, JULIEN SHINE FOR SAINTS AT ECAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
March 3, 2012
New York, N.Y. - The Emmanuel duo of Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) represented the Saints on Saturday at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. Bruno and Julien qualified for the ECACs in two events each, competing on Saturday afternoon at the Armory in New York City.
Bruno, a sophomore on the Saints squad, kicked off his ECAC day by sprinting to a 2nd place finish in the 500 meter dash. Bruno crossed the line at 1:04.75 for a new personal record, earning All-ECAC honors with his top-eight finish. Bruno is just the second Emmanuel indoor athlete to achieve All-ECAC honors. The only other EC athlete to do so was Chris Conway, who won the 60m hurdles back in 2009.
After his All-ECAC performance, Bruno had just 45 minutes to rest before competing in his second event of the day, the 1000 meter run. The sophomore finished in 2:37.57, placing 26th overall.
Julien, a freshman sprinter, had qualified for the ECACs in both the 200m and 400m races. Julien opened the day with the 400, finishing 9th overall with his time of 49.80. The rookie just missed All-ECAC honors (top-eight) by .500th of a second. Julien then faced the 200 meter dash, in which he sprinted to a 15th place finish with a time of 22.79.
With the indoor season in the books, both Bruno and Julien will now begin training outside for the spring track season. Emmanuel's first outdoor meet will take place on March 17th at Northeastern University's Spring Open.
