SELECTED SAINTS COMPETE AT NEW ENGLAND DIVISION III TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

SPRINGFIELD/NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Fourteen Emmanuel student-athletes qualified for and competed in the New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon in western Massachusetts. Smith College hosted the women's championship and Springfield College hosted the men. Sophomore Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) led the Saints will his All-New England performance in the 600 meters.
Bruno sprinted to a 7th place finish in the 600 meters His top-eight finish earned him All-New England honors for the second-straight year. Bruno finished 8th in this race last year as a freshman. His 2012 time of 1:23.92 set a new Emmanuel program-record in the event. Bruno will advance to compete again on March 3rd at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships in New York City. Bruno is one of just two male Emmanuel athletes in program history to earn All-New England honors in Indoor Track.
Bruno also ran the lead-off leg for the 4x400m relay team. He teamed up with freshman Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.), senior Wesley Cowles (Hebron, Conn.), and sophomore Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) for a 12th place finish, running in a time of 3:33.47.
Emmanuel also entered a team in the Distance Medley Relay. The quartet of freshman Brian Collins (Hull, Mass.), sophomore David Allen (Hull, Mass.), freshman Dana Murphy (Dennisport, Mass.), and senior captain Abdi Ibrahim (East Boston, Mass.) placed 14th overall, but set a new Emmanuel program-record with their combined time of 11:14.08
Emmanuel had six women qualify for five different individual events at the New England championships. This was the largest group of female individual qualifiers for the Saints. Emmanuel also entered two women's relay teams.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Murphy (Ludlow, Mass.) competed in the Triple Jump and finished with a jump of 32'5". Senior Shannon McCabe (Charlestown, R.I.) sprinted to a 10.19 finish in the 60 meter hurdles.
Senior captain Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, Calif.), junior Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H) saw action in three different events. Both, Kulubya and Metivier, ran individually in the 400 meter race. Kulubya finished 11th overall in a time of 60.94, just one tenth of a second off her All-New England time from 2011. Metivier came in a 64.42.
Victoria ran a 28.71 two hundred-meter race, while classmate Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) competed in the 600 meters.
Kulubya, Victoria and Metivier then competed on two different relay teams. Kulubya and Metivier ran the first two legs of the 4x200m relay. McCabe ran the 3rd leg and Victoria anchored the team that finished in 15th place overall with a time of 1:50.54.
Kulubya, Metivier and Victoria then joined Young for the 4x400m relay. Their time of 4:15.21 earned the group 15th place overall.
The ECAC qualifiers from Emmanuel will compete in two weeks at the New Balance Armory New York City. The 2012 ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by New York University.
