SAINTS HAVE STRONG SHOWING AT SMITH INVITATIONAL

Northampton, MA, - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams traveled to Northampton, MA on Saturday (2/10) to compete in the Smith College Tartan Invitational. Several Emmanuel athletes placed in their individual events or as members of various relay teams. Freshman Alex Lucier (Northbridge, MA) placed 7th in the high jump with a school record performance (5'8.75") and he also lowered his personal best in the 55-meters (7.24). Lucier joined senior Mike Thurnauer (Reading, MA), sophomore Rob Littleton (Plymouth, MA), and sophomore Kevin Ly (Portland, ME) in breaking the program record in the 4 X 200 meter relay. Senior Rob Allen (Plymouth, MA) placed 5th in the 400-meters and also anchored the 4 X 400 meter relay team of Thurnauer, Littleton, and senior Matt Hickey (North Attlebor, MA) to a 5th place finish. Freshman Ryan Maher (Gales Ferry, CT) placed 8th in the 55-meter hurdles. Freshman John Hieber (Peabody, MA) improved his personal best in the 400-meters. Sophomore Doug Gillum (Boylston, MA), who was unable to run due to an injury, established his personal best in the shot put with a 25'4" heave.
Sophomore Sarah Soldano (Bethel, CT) had another strong showing, as she placed fourth in the long jump (15'4"), sixth in the high jump (4'11"), and just missed making the finals in the 55-meters with a new personal best (8.08). Junior Cat Lariviere (Windham, NH) placed 5th in the 3K with a time of 11:14.38. Freshman Dana Griffin (Walpole, MA) improved her personal best in the mile by over 10 seconds. Griffin was also part of the 4 X 800 meter relay team of senior Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI), freshman Maureen Kellett (Westborough, MA), and junior Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA) that placed 5th with a time of 11:32.14. McCaffrey also established her personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:46.55. Freshman Alison Lynch (Pawtucket, RI) lowered her personal best in the 400 meters and Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI) established hers in the same event. Freshman Shaniqua Eaton (Springfield, MA) improved on her time in the 55 meters (8.35).
The Saints will complete their regular season next Saturday (2/16) at the MIT Coed Invitational.
