INDOOR TEAMS COMPETE IN TUFTS STAMPEDE

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Saints Indoor Track & Field Teams took to the track at Tufts University's Gantcher Center on Saturday to compete in the Tufts Stampede. The 21-team invitational saw the Emmanuel women finish 11th and the Saints men place 15th overall. As a team, the Saints recorded 14 personal bests and broke 4 program records to go along with 6 New England Division III qualifying performances and 1 ECAC championship qualifier.
Sophomore Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) paced the Saints by smashing the Emmanuel record in the 1000m with a time of 2:32.83 and capturing 2nd place in the event. Bruno's time qualified him for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on March 3rd in New York City.
Both, freshman Adam Julien (new Orleans, La.) and senior captain Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, Calif.) lowered their New England Division III qualifying times in the 400m. Julien captured 3rd place overall with his new program-record time of 50.98. Kulubya came in a 61.19, cutting three tenths of a second on her qualifying time.
Senior Shannon McCabe (Charlestown, R.I.) earned a New England qualifying performance in the 60m hurdles. McCabe placed 8th overall in a school-record time of 9.90. Freshman Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) also had a big day in the same event on the men's side, as he set a new personal record with a time of 9.57.
Junior Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) took home 6th place in the 200m with a time of 27.73. Sophomore Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) PRed in the same event with a time of 28.37.
Both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams improved on their Division III New England qualifying times. The women's team of Kulubya, Metivier, Victoria and Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) placed 4th in a time of 4:15.63. The men's team, which featured Bruno, Wesley Cowles (Hebron, Conn.), Thomas and Julien, also placed 4th and notched a time of 3:31.53, cutting two seconds off their best time.
Sophomore Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) set a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 14'6". She then grabbed 7th place with a 4'9.75" high jump. Senior captain Gregory Brown (Norton, Mass.) heaved the weight two feet further than his previous program-record mark. Brown now owns the Emmanuel weight throw record at 36'0.25"
The Emmanuel Indoor Track & Field Teams will return to action this Saturday (2/11), when they take to the track at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. The meet is slated to begin at noon.
