TRACK TEAMS PERFORM WELL IN MAINE

Gorham, ME - The Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams had a successful day at the University of Southern Maine Invitational. The Emmanuel women's team placed 5th, while the Emmanuel men placed 6th. Freshmen Ryan Maher (Gales Ferry, CT) broke his personal record in the 55-meter hurdles with a New England Division III Championship qualifying time of 8.38. Maher had the fastest time in the preliminaries. He also teamed up with Alex Lucier (Northbridge, MA), John Hieber (Peabody, MA), and Kevin Ly (Portland, ME) to break the school record in the 4 x 200-meter relay (1:40.70). Sophomore Pat Welton (Derby, CT) improved on his personal best in the 400-meter run with a time of 60.68.
On the women's side, sophomore Sarah Soldano (Bethel, CT) qualified for the New England Division III Championship in the long jump, breaking her own school record by over 6 inches (15'7.75"). She also placed 2nd in the high jump (4'11") and improved on her personal best in the 55-meters (8.15). Sophomore Katie Beaton (Groveland, MA) and freshman Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Milford, MA) also achieved their personal bests in the 55-meters. Junior Cat Lariviere (Windham, NH) lowered her school record time in the mile to 5:36.56. Lariviere also teamed up with Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI), Allison Lynch (Pawtucket, RI), and Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA) to break the school record in the 4 X 800 meter relay. Gaspar then went on to run her personal best in the 3k with a time of 11:20.48. Along with Fitzpatrick, the women's team also had several other great performances by freshmen. Rookie Shaniqua Eaton (Springfield, MA) improved on her personal best in the 55-meters and in the triple jump, while Dana Griffin (Walpole, MA) broke her personal record in the 55-meters and in the mile. Freshmen Maureen Kellett (Westborough, MA), Elyse Whitehead (Canadaigua, NY), and Carolyn Moriarty (Littleton, MA) also ran their fastest times in the mile.
The Saints will travel to Smith College next Saturday (2/9), hoping to get a few more qualifiers for the New England Division III Championship.
