SAINTS SHINE AT SMITH PIONEER INVITE
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College indoor track & field team traveled to Smith College for the Pioneer Invite this past Saturday, January 20th, where seven women were able to place within the top eight in their events, along with 13 athletes from the men’s team.

THE LEAD: The Emmanuel College indoor track & field team traveled to Smith College for the Pioneer Invite this past Saturday, January 20th, where seven women were able to place within the top eight in their events, along with 13 athletes from the men's team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pearl Vercruysse (Chilmark, Mass.) led the way for the Saints, winning both the mile (5:18.39) and the 800 meter (2:25.90), which are both school records.
- Stephanie Forester (East Walpole, Mass.) recorded a personal record in her seventh place finish in the 800 meter final with a time of 2:41.90.
- The Saints controlled the top eight of the women's 800 meter race, holding five of the top eight places in the race.
- On the men's side, Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.) was able to claim the second place finish in the men's 600 meter race, recording a personal best of 1:26.80).
- Freshman Trevor McCarthy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) completed the day with three personal records and three top-eight finishes in the high jump (5'7), long jump (17'4") and shot put (27'10.50").
OF NOTE
- Chelsea Smith (Manchester, Conn.) is currently ranked twelfth in the country, second in New England for her time in the 200m.
- Vercruysee is currently ranked forty-ninth nationally and twenty-fourth in New England after this weekend's personal record race.
