GONSOR SETS 500m PROGRAM RECORD AT 5TH ANNUAL UMB OPEN
BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore sprinter Jordyn Gonsor (Springfield, Mass.) set a new program record in the 500 meter indoor event this Saturday at the 5th Annual University of Massachusetts Boston Indoor Open at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. Gonsor posted a third place finish in the race with her record-setting time of 1:22.50 to pace the Saints.
BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore sprinter Jordyn Gonsor (Springfield, Mass.) set a new program record in the 500 meter indoor event this Saturday at the 5th Annual University of Massachusetts Boston Indoor Open at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. Gonsor posted a third place finish in the race with her record-setting time of 1:22.50 to pace the Saints.
Senior sprinter Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) opened her final season with EC with a solid showing in the 60m race with a time of 8.55 seconds while sophomore Angela Brocco (Levittown, N.Y.) paced the Saints 800 meter effort with a 21st place finish at 2:57.51. Junior Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) debuted a solid time in the mile clocking in at 5:38.90 for a sixth place finish followed by teammates in sophomores Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) and Mimi Duncan (Portsmouth, N.H.) who finished with near identical times of 5:51.26 and 5:51.30 for 14th and 15th place.
Senior Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.) opened the season with a 60m hurdle time of 10.46 for a 15th place finish while classmate Katherine Zombik (Holyoke, Mass.) was just .19 seconds behind at 10.65 seconds in 19th place.
In the field events, senior Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) finished tied for 10th in the high jump with a leap of 1.45 meters. Costello was the top EC leaper in the long jump at 4.70 meters, enough for a 13th place finish. In her collegiate throwing debut, freshman Shannon Donahue (Manchester, N.H.) led Emmanuel with a Shot Put toss of 8.16 meters.
On the men's side, junior Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.) finished second in a strong 500m showing, clocking in at 1:07.99. Freshman Patrick Carty (Sweeden, Maine) made a strong collegiate indoor debut setting the Emmanuel freshman record in the 5K race, placing 23rd overall at 16:29.08. Senior Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) also raced well in the 5K coming in just before Carty in 21st with a time of 16:20.51.
Freshman Justin Scott (Woburn, Mass.) placed 18th in the 1000 meter event with a time of 3:05.21 while rookie Erik Brobst (Freeport, Maine) finished 20th overall in the 3000 meter race at 9:53.46.
Senior Cameron Anderson (Watertown, Mass.) paced the Saints in the field with a toss of 11.93 meters in the Shot Put, good for 23rd overall. Junior Constantino Politis (Saugus, Mass.) collected a 37th place finish with a throw of 10.56 meters in the Shot Put and finished 29th in the Weight Throw with a toss of 9.51 meters.
The Saints return to action next weekend when they head back to the Reggie Lewis Center for the Northeastern University Carisella Invitational on Saturday, December 10.
