MEDFORD, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams took part in the Tufts University Winter Invitational on Saturday afternoon, competing against fourteen other programs representing Division I, II and III colleges and universities. Four of the Saints' relay squads placed among the top eight at the competitive meet, while thirteen EC personal records were set at Tufts' Gantcher Center.
Junior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) clipped some time off her 800m event, crossing the line in a personal record of 2:35.72 and now owns Emmanuel's 5th all-time best indoor 800m performance. Senior captain Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) was two seconds off her best time in the 600m. Both Egan and classmate Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.) finished in a dead heat at 1:49.62. This time was a PR for Benassi.
Egan and Benassi would later team up with Taylor Peck (Woodbury, Conn.) and Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) for the women's 4x800m relay. The foursome raced to an 8th place finish in 11:02.95.
The EC women's 4x200m relay team sprinted to a 7th place finish overall, crossing the line in a combined time of 1:56.41. The team of Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.), Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.), Sara Ciochetti (Watertown, Conn.) and Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) have now qualified to compete in the New England Division III Championships in the post-season. This was Emmanuel's only post-season qualifying performance on the day.
Coming off her record-setting performance last week, Costello turned in a time of 9.93 to lead the Saints in the women's 60 meter hurdles. Rookie Brian Uram (Westford, Mass.) led the Emmanuel men with a time of 9.27 in this event.
Leading the way for the EC men was senior captain Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.), who sprinted to a 4th place finish in his signature 400m event, turning in a time of 51.39. Julien would later anchor the men's 4x200m relay team, teaming up with Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.), Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.), and Uram, to finish in 6th place with a time of 1:39.53.
The men's 4x800m relay squad, made up of Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.), Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) and Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.), placed 7th overall in a time of 8:53.27.
Freshman Paige Depasquale (Maynard, Mass.) continued to perform well in the field for the Saints. The rookie was one foot short of her personal best in the shot put, landing it 32'5.75". She also launched the weight throw 21'6" on Saturday.
Emmanuel is back in action this Saturday, January 24th, when the Saints compete in Smith College's Benyon Invitational. The meet is slated to begin at 11:00 AM.
