CAMPAGNA NAMED GNAC ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER FOR MEDIA RELATIONS
April 26, 2012
Emmanuel College's Assistant Sports Information Director, Dan Campagna, has been appointed the Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), a part-time position he will hold in addition to his full-time position with the Saints Athletic staff. Campagna has worked in the Emmanuel Sports Information Office since the summer of 2011. As an Emmanuel College alum and a former three-sport standout student-athlete for the Saints, he is no stranger to the GNAC. Beginning in July, Campagna will be the primary media relations contact for all full-time and affiliate members of the conference.
Campagna, a native of Somers, Connecticut, graduated magna cum laude, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English Communications from Emmanuel in 2007. He earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts Boston in June of 2011. While pursuing his graduate degree, Campagna worked at UMass Boston, as both a Graduate Assistant and later the Interim Director of Sports Information for the Beacons. Campagna directed the sports information efforts for the Beacons' 18 varsity athletic teams before returning to Emmanuel last summer in a full-time capacity.
With the GNAC, some of his duties will include promoting and publicizing the conference, maintaining the upkeep of thegnac.com website, acting as the conference's historical statistician, updating and maintaining GNAC records, overseeing and assisting in the weekly, seasonal and yearly awards and working closely with the GNAC commissioner.
"We are thrilled to have somebody with Dan's extensive professional background as well as his GNAC pedigree," said Joe Walsh, GNAC Commissioner. "I look forward to working with Dan on a daily basis to showcase all of the wonderful student athletes and institutions that comprise the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. I would also like to thank the search committee for all their hard work in this very important step in the GNAC's growth.
Campagna, a former collegiate goalkeeper for Emmanuel, helped build the foundation for the Saints Men's Soccer program. During his playing days, Campagna enjoyed an impressive career as a four-year starter and two-time team captain. In 2003, he was in net for the program's first-ever victory and graduated holding every single goalkeeping record, including career wins, shutouts, saves and save percentage.
The Emmanuel grad was a three-time GNAC Academic All-Conference selection and received the EC Athletic Department's Senior Leadership Award in 2007. While at Emmanuel, Campagna also competed on the Men's Volleyball and Indoor Track & Field squads, as well as the Baseball club team. He was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) as well as a summer Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant and Admission's Ambassador at Emmanuel.
"We enthusiastically recommended Dan for this position and encouraged him to apply," said Emmanuel's Director of Athletics Pam Roecker. "I know he will be outstanding in his role in the conference's media relations office and will be fantastic in his publicity of the GNAC, as he has done for the student-athletes at Emmanuel."
The EC alum expressed excitement over his new appointment with the GNAC.
"From my time as a student-athlete through my hire at Emmanuel last summer, it has been a lot of fun watching the GNAC grow and mature as a conference," said Campagna. "I'm very excited to now have the opportunity to be a part of that growth and future development and can't wait to work with Commissioner Walsh and all of the other GNAC institutions."
In addition to his position at Emmanuel, Campagna is also an Adjunct Professor of Sports Journalism at Lasell College in Newton.
