Class of 2023 Emmanuel College Athletics Senior Awards Announced
BOSTON - On Monday, May 9, 2023, the Emmanuel College Department of Athletics held its annual Senior Awards Banquet, honoring members of the Class of 2023 for their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom, and within the community. This year, a total of 21 awards were presented as 18 student-athletes and three Emmanuel staff members were recognized by the department.
BOSTON - On Monday, May 9, 2023, the Emmanuel College Department of Athletics held its annual Senior Awards Banquet, honoring members of the Class of 2023 for their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom, and within the community. This year, a total of 21 awards were presented as 18 student-athletes and three Emmanuel staff members were recognized by the department.
Each May, at the conclusion of the academic year, the Emmanuel College Athletic Staff gathers to honor the numerous accomplishments achieved by the graduating class. Following an internal nominations and voting process, the department bestows awards to Saints student-athletes in the following areas: Scholar-Athlete Award, Leadership Award, Sportsmanship Award, Inspiration Award, Perseverance Award, Saints Club Award, Unsung Hero Award, HALO's Award, and the Andrew Yosinoff Athletic Achievement Award.
All seniors honored are nominated by their Head Coaches or an Emmanuel College staff member before a selection committee of department representatives selects each award recipient based on the award descriptions.
Following the voting process, the Class of 2023 and members of the Athletic Staff gathered in the Eisner Administration Building Auditorium to celebrate this group of honorees:

Senior Scholar-Athlete Award - Patrick Mannion (Men's Volleyball) Given annually to a male and a female member of the senior class who combine excellence in the classroom with excellence on the playing field and have maintained the highest cumulative grade point average among the senior student-athletes. CAREER SUMMARY: Mannion appeared in 30 matches for Emmanuel over three seasons for the program. In his senior season, the New Boston, N.H. native set career highs in total kills, kills per set, and hitting percentage in nine appearances in 2023. Mannion was voted as one of the team's captains by his peers prior to the start of the season and has been named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team on two occasions while also being the team's Academic Award winner, given annually to the member of the team with the highest cumulative grade point average. |

Senior Scholar-Athlete Award - Molly Winship (Women's Cross Country/Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field) Given annually to a male and a female member of the senior class who combine excellence in the classroom with excellence on the playing field and have maintained the highest cumulative grade point average among the senior student-athletes. CAREER SUMMARY: Winship is a three-year runner for the Saints in cross country events and mid-distance track events throughout her career. In cross country, Winship has four career top-20 finishes, including a career-best ninth place at the GNAC Championship in 2019. For indoor and outdoor track, Winship finishes her career with three total GNAC Team Championships, being part of the team's indoor win in 2020 while adding outdoor conference championships in 2022 and 2023. The Boxford, Mass. native is a two-time GNAC All-Academic Team member. |

Senior Leadership Award - Tatiana Correia (Women's Volleyball) Given annually to a senior athlete who has distinguished himself or herself by demonstrating the qualities desired to lead successful teams throughout his or her athletic career. CAREER SUMMARY: Correia played three seasons for Saints women's volleyball, primarily as the program's libero over her 81 career matches for Emmanuel. Correia never missed a match in her three-year career, as the Saints competed in 81 matches the last three seasons, with Correia making appearances in every contest. The Peabody, Mass. native wraps up her career with 854 digs and 61 aces. Correia was one of the program's captains for the 2022 season and has been named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team twice and the GNAC Sportsmanship Team once. |

Senior Leadership Award - Derek DelVecchio (Men's Lacrosse) Given annually to a senior athlete who has distinguished himself or herself by demonstrating the qualities desired to lead successful teams throughout his or her athletic career. CAREER SUMMARY: DelVecchio is a four-year player for the Saints, making 52 appearances to go with 47 starts in his career. A defensive leader at the difficult position of short-stick midfielder, DelVecchio has a career of 20 goals and 16 assists to go with stellar career defensive numbers of 190 ground balls and 63 caused turnovers. A native of Saugus, Mass., DelVecchio has been named to the GNAC All-Conference First Team in 2022 and 2023, was voted the Team MVP following his junior season, and has served as one of the team captains in each of the last two years. |

Senior Sportsmanship Award - Julyanne Pacheco (Softball) Given annually to the senior athlete who has conducted his or herself in the highest manner on the playing field, including interactions with players, coaches, and officials. CAREER SUMMARY: A four-year member of the softball program, Pacheco graduates from Emmanuel with 112 career games played. A regular outfielder for the Saints, Pacheco set numerous single-season career-highs in her senior year including hits, triples, runs scored, RBI, and stolen bases. Over four seasons, the Somerset, Mass. native batted .282, finishing just shy of the 100-hit plateau, capping her career with 92 total hits. Pacheco was named to the All-Conference First Team in 2021 and earned a place on the GANC All-Academic Team in 2022. |

Senior Sportsmanship Award - Colin Dickinson (Men's Lacrosse) Given annually to the senior athlete who has conducted his or herself in the highest manner on the playing field, including interactions with players, coaches, and officials. CAREER SUMMARY: Dickinson is a fifth-year senior, graduating from Emmanuel this year after competing in a fifth season due to the cancellation of the 2020 season. The attackman has made 63 career appearances, including 55 starts, and has started every game the Saints have played, dating back to 2020. The Barre, Vt. native has a career of 84 goals and 33 assists and is now just one of seven players in program history with at least 100 career points. In his final season, Dickinson has career-highs in goals, points, ground balls, and caused turnovers. |

Senior Inspiration Award - Tianna Dawe (Softball) Honors the outstanding senior athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. CAREER SUMMARY: Dawe played four seasons for Emmanuel, making her mark as the ace of the pitching staff over the last two seasons. The righty pitcher made 83 appearances and 53 starts for the Saints in her career, finishing with a 40-30 record in 403 innings pitched, to go with an ERA of 2.66 and a total of 295 strikeouts. The Lynn, Mass. native made 139 plate appearances, batting .281. Of her 39 career hits, 22 of them were for extra bases. Dawe was voted to the All-Conference First Team in 2021 and 2022, the All-Conference Second Team in 2023, and is a two-time member of the GNAC Academic squad. |

Senior Inspiration Award - Vanessa René (Dance Team) Honors the outstanding senior athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. CAREER SUMMARY: A four-year member of the dance team, René has been an invaluable resource as the team's captain in 2023. The native of Hamilton, N.J., René will earn her B.A. in Psychology, with a specialization in Health and Counseling. During her time on the team, Vanessa has helped the dance team achieve its rankings at local and regional competitions including the New England Cheer and Dance Competition and the UDA New England Dance Challenge. In her senior season, René and the Saints placed first at the New England Cheer and Dance Competition and second place at the Endicott Dance Invitational. |

Senior Perseverance Award - Catherine Manning (Women's Soccer) Given annually to a senior student-athlete who has shown great determination in overcoming physical setbacks. Through hard work and dedication, this senior has been able to overcome the challenges set forth and successfully return to athletic competition. CAREER SUMMARY: A three-year player for the program, Manning recovered from a severe leg injury that left her out of action for nearly two years. A gap of 23 months spanned between appearances on the pitch for Manning, as the injury occurred late in the 2019 season before the Saints center-back returned in mid-2021. Despite the career-threatening injury, Manning played 44 games with 33 starts in her career and is a two-time runner and finisher of the Boston Marathon, completing the 26.2-mile run in 2022 and 2023. |

Senior Perseverance Award - Brendan Kade (Men's Basketball) Given annually to a senior student-athlete who has shown great determination in overcoming physical setbacks. Through hard work and dedication, this senior has been able to overcome the challenges set forth and successfully return to athletic competition. CAREER SUMMARY: Coming into his junior season, Kade suffered a traumatic knee injury in the summer of 2021, an injury that would keep him off the court in the 2021-22 season. Kade remained close to the program in the 2021-22 season, serving as the team manager, before returning to play as a senior, making his comeback early in the 2022-23 season against UMaine-Farmington. The Summerville, S.C. native has played in just two officials seasons, making 20 appearances, including a dozen of those following the knee injury. |

Senior Saints Club Award - Ricky Martin (Men's Basketball) Honors the senior athlete who best represents and exemplifies the spirit of the College's athletic program. CAREER SUMMARY: Martin played three seasons for the Saints, making 61 appearances and 42 starts over his career. The senior guard had a breakout campaign in 2022-23, registering career-highs in points per game, assists per game, and steals per game. Martin added career-bests shooting percentages from the field, three-point distance, and a stellar 94.1 percent from the line in his final season. A native of Sicklerville, N.J., Martin was given the Coaches Appreciation Team Award following his junior season. |

Senior Saints Club Award - Maegan Amsler (Softball) Honors the senior athlete who best represents and exemplifies the spirit of the College's athletic program. CAREER SUMMARY: With 84 games played in four seasons for softball, Amsler has been a staple in the Saints infield over her career. Although a canceled 2020 season and an injury in 2022 limited her games played, Amsler still made an impact for the Saints, finishing her career with 74 hits, 65 RBI, and a batting average of .294. The Hanover, Mass. native is a two-time member of the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team, was recognized by the program in 2021 with the Coaches Appreciation Award, and represented the Saints on the All-Sportsmanship team in 2023. |

Senior Unsung Hero Award - Kerry Shea (Women's Volleyball) Given annually to a senior athlete who has exhibited leadership, dedication, and athletic achievement in quiet ways, which may have gone unrecognized throughout his or her career. CAREER SUMMARY: Shea was a three-year member of the Saints program, competing in 61 matches over 176 sets in her career. The 2022 campaign was a senior season breakout for Shea, who gathered career-highs in kills, kills per set, service aces, digs, digs per set, total blocks, and points responsible for per set. In addition, Shea was the team's only member to record 100 kills and 100 digs in the 2022 campaign. The Tewksbury, Mass. native is a two-time GNAC Academic All-Conference honoree and was awarded the team's Academic Award in 2020 for having the highest cumulative GPA on the team. |

Senior Unsung Hero Award - Cole Berry (Men's Soccer) Given annually to a senior athlete who has exhibited leadership, dedication, and athletic achievement in quiet ways, which may have gone unrecognized throughout his or her career. CAREER SUMMARY: Berry played three seasons for the Saints, making 45 appearances and 41 starts for Emmanuel on their back line. Berry was one of the program's captains in 2022, helping lead the Saints to a GNAC Semifinals appearance as a senior. This past season, Berry was part of a defensive unit that surrendered the fewest goals in a season in program history while helping the Saints to the program record for single-season winning percentage against GNAC opponents. The Carver, Mass. native was voted to the GNAC Third Team in 2022 and is a two-time member of the Academic All-Conference squad. |

HALO'S Award - Ali Bergin (Women's Lacrosse) Honors the senior athlete who best represents Emmanuel with Heart, Attitude, Loyalty, Outstanding athletic ability and demonstrated success as a Student. CAREER SUMMARY: A three-year player for the Saints, Bergin made 44 appearances and 42 starts in her career at Emmanuel. The senior midfielder was a regular stat-sheet stuffer, finishing her career with 21 goal, 22 assists, 64 ground balls, 61 draw controls, and 46 caused turnovers. The Newbury, Mass. native was voted one of the team captains prior to the season, has been named to the GNAC All-Academic Team twice, and has represented the Saints on the All-Sportsmanship Team in 2021 and 2023. |

HALO'S Award - Roman Fabrizio (Men's Volleyball & Men's Golf) Honors the senior athlete who best represents Emmanuel with Heart, Attitude, Loyalty, Outstanding athletic ability and demonstrated success as a Student. CAREER SUMMARY: Over three seasons for the Saints, Fabrizio made 71 appearances over 227 sets, primarily as the Saints setter in all three years. In 2023, Fabrizio became one of eight players in program history to reach the 1,000 career assists plateau, wrapping up his senior campaign with 1,621 assists, good for seventh in men's volleyball program history. The Salem, N.H. native was voted to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team in 2023 and the GNAC All-Academic Team in 2021. |

Andrew Yosinoff Athletic Achievement Award - Megan Steele (Women's Lacrosse) Given annually to a senior athlete who has excelled on the playing field and provided the greatest contribution to the athletic reputation of Emmanuel College through exceptional athletic achievement. CAREER SUMMARY: Steele played four seasons for Emmanuel, making 47 appearances, including 46 starts for the women's lacrosse program. Steele has improved her numbers in every season over her career, enjoying the best season of her career as a senior, scoring 34 goals to go with 27 assists for 61 points, all career-highs. Steele became the 14th player in program history to reach 100 career points, ending her four years with 125 total points, good for seventh in the all-time program rankings. Steele was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2021, was voted to the GNAC Second Team in 2021 and 2023, and is a two-time member of the GNAC Academic All-Conference squad. |

Andrew Yosinoff Athletic Achievement Award - Alec Erskine (Men's Soccer) Given annually to a senior athlete who has excelled on the playing field and provided the greatest contribution to the athletic reputation of Emmanuel College through exceptional athletic achievement. CAREER SUMMARY: Erskine finds his name at the top of numerous program records after three seasons with the Saints, making 50 appearances, including 48 starts. The senior forward holds the program record for career goals (33), career points (76), and career game-winning goals (13). He has the seventh most assists in program history, ending his career with 10 helpers. Erskine adds single-season program records with goals (12 in 2021), points (27 in 2021), and game-winning goals (6 in 2019). In 2021, Erskine set the NCAA record for the fastest consecutive goals scored, netting a pair of goals in eight seconds (0:08) vs. Lasell. The Coventry, R.I. native is a two-time GNAC Second Team Selection, a one-time GNAC First Team Selection, a four-time Team MVP, and is the only player in program history to be named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region 1 Team, earning a Second Team Selection in 2022. |
