2020 Emmanuel College Athletics Senior Awards Announced
BOSTON, Mass. - The 2020 Emmanuel College Athletic Department Senior Awards have been announced, honoring a total of 19 student-athletes.
BOSTON, Mass. - The 2020 Emmanuel College Athletic Department Senior Awards have been announced, honoring a total of 19 student-athletes.
At the conclusion of each academic year, the Emmanuel Athletic staff comes together to honor the numerous accomplishments achieved by the graduating class and, following an internal nomination and voting process, bestow awards upon deserving individuals for nine distinguished honors: Perseverance Award, Scholar Athlete Award, Unsung Hero Award, Sportsmanship Award, Leadership Award, Inspiration Award, Saints Club Award, HALO'S Award and the Andrew Yosinoff Athletic Achievement Award.
All seniors honored are nominated by their Head Coaches or an Emmanuel College staff member before a selection committee made up of department representatives selects each award recipient based on the award descriptions.
These honors are historically presented at an end of year Senior Athletic Banquet on campus that was postponed this year due to the CoVID19 pandemic. The EC Athletic Department hopes to honor all of this year's award recipients and senior class at a later date.
2020 Senior Award Recipients
Senior Perseverance Award - Kerry Sendrick (Softball) Given annually to a senior student-athlete who has shown great determination in overcoming physical setbacks. Through hard work and dedication, this senior has been able to overcome the challenges set forth and successfully return to athletic competition. SENIOR SUMMARY: Kerry served as a softball team captain during her junior and senior seasons and over her career played in 105 games. She collected 86 total hits including 32 extra base hits while hitting .282 over her career with 59 RBI, also drawing 50 career walks. Kerry was named to the GNAC All-Tournament team last year as well as the GNAC Player of the Week and has been named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team each of the last two seasons. She was the 2019 Softball team Unsung Hero and earned the Coaches' Appreciation Award in 2017. |

Senior Perseverance Award - Owen Greene (Men's Basketball) Given annually to a senior student-athlete who has shown great determination in overcoming physical setbacks. Through hard work and dedication, this senior has been able to overcome the challenges set forth and successfully return to athletic competition. SENIOR SUMMARY: Owen transferred to Emmanuel College after playing his first year of college hoops at Division II Flagler College in Saint Augustine, Florida. Since joining the Saints, Greene has appeared in 31 games over three seasons including a career-high 17 games this year. The big man earned two starts during his sophomore campaign and over his career has provided a great post presence off the bench for the Saints. While at Emmanuel, he's shot 39.2% from the field and 70% from the free throw line, collecting 86 points, 57 rebounds, nine assists, seven steals and four blocked shots. |

Senior Scholar Athlete Award - Marissa Cataldo (Women's Volleyball) Given annually to a male and a female member of the senior class who combine excellence in the classroom with excellence on the playing field and have maintained the highest cumulative grade point average among the senior student-athletes. SENIOR SUMMARY: Marissa appeared in 115 career matches over four seasons with the Saints and served as a team captain during her senior campaign. The Melrose, Massachusetts native closed her EC career with 735 kills and 893 career digs to rank 11th all-time in kills and 13th all-time in digs. The Accounting and Economics major was named the team's Unsung Hero for the 2017 season and has earned GNAC Academic All-Conference honors each of the past three years to go along with the team Academic Award as both a junior and senior. She graduated with a 3.96 cumulative GPA as a double-major in Accounting and Economics. |

Senior Scholar Athlete Award - Jack Scavone (Men's Golf) Given annually to a male and a female member of the senior class who combine excellence in the classroom with excellence on the playing field and have maintained the highest cumulative grade point average among the senior student-athletes. SENIOR SUMMARY: Jack was a four-year member of the Emmanuel men's golf team, serving as a team captain during his final campaign with the Saints. The lefty broke onto the collegiate scene with a stellar rookie campaign, shooting the team-low in five of his six matches played including a career-low of a 77 on September 17, 2016 at Hickory Ridge Golf Course. Scavone qualified and competed every year as the Saints top golfer in the GNAC Championship and for four straight seasons, posted the lowest score on the team in the Championship. He graduated with a 3.73 cumulative GPA as a Philosophy major. |

Senior Unsung Hero Award - Allison Hutchings (Women's Lacrosse) Given annually to a senior athlete who has exhibited leadership, dedication, and athletic achievement in quiet ways, which may have gone unrecognized throughout his or her career. SENIOR SUMMARY: Allison has served as a women's lacrosse team captain each of the last two seasons and over her career played in 47 games, earning 38 career starts. She collected 83 total points including 44 goals and 39 assists, ranking seventh all-time in program history in assists. She wrapped her career with 67 draw controls, 48 groundballs and 26 caused turnovers. Allison was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team following her sophomore and junior campaign and was named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team each of the last two seasons. She earned the Coaches' Appreciation Award in 2018. She joined her fellow seniors in being named the 2020 Women's Lacrosse Most Valuable Player this season. |

Senior Unsung Hero Award - Erik Brobst (Men's Cross Country/Track & Field) Given annually to a senior athlete who has exhibited leadership, dedication, and athletic achievement in quiet ways, which may have gone unrecognized throughout his or her career. SENIOR SUMMARY: Erik was a four-year member of the Cross Country program and also competed on the Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field squads for two seasons. Over his XC career, the Freeport, Maine native ran in a total of 27 races, always finishing as a top-five runner for the Saints. Brobst enjoyed a breakout first-year campaign, setting the EC rookie record in the 8K with a time of 27:01 at the NCAA Regional race. He closed out his career with a PR in his final meet, running the 2019 NCAA Regional race in 26:59. Over his career, he earned GNAC All-Conference honors every season, earning First Team honors as a freshman and Second Team honors his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He earned the Coach's Appreciation Award in 2016 and tabbed the Team MVP in 2018 and 2019 |

Senior Sportsmanship Award - Amie Knowles (Women's Track & Field) Given annually to the senior athlete who has conducted his or herself in the highest manner on the playing field, including interactions with players, coaches, and officials. SENIOR SUMMARY: Amie was a member of both the Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field squads at Emmanuel, serving as a team captain to both squads during her junior season. The thrower competed in the Discus, Hammer, Shot Put, Weight Throw and Javelin events during her career while also providing strong leadership to fellow throwers on her team. She was a member of the 2020 GNAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship team. Amie earned the Academic Achievement Award as a sophomore and junior for both teams and was the recipient of the Coaches' Appreciation Award for the Outdoor T&F season in 2017. |

Senior Sportsmanship Award - Jack Boyle (Men's Lacrosse) Given annually to the senior athlete who has conducted his or herself in the highest manner on the playing field, including interactions with players, coaches, and officials. SENIOR SUMMARY: Jack was a four-year member of the Men's Lacrosse program and served as a team captain during his senior campaign. The Milford, Mass. native saw action in 22 games over his four years with the Saints, starting six contests all during his sophomore season. Boyle was known for his great work ethic on and off the field and was an amazing teammate. His junior campaign was cut short after just two games due to injury but he remained a committed member of the program and provided great leadership throughout the remainder of his tenure with the Blue and Gold. He finished his career with five points on three goals and two assists including a career-high three point outing earlier this year vs. UMass Boston. |

Senior Leadership Award - Jackie Schneider (Women's Cross Country/Track & Field) Given annually to a senior athlete who has distinguished his or herself by demonstrating the qualities desired to lead successful teams throughout his or her athletic career. SENIOR SUMMARY: Jackie enjoyed a strong career as a three-sport varsity athlete at Emmanuel, competing in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. She served as a team captain her senior season and will graduate as the program record-holder in four events including the Pentathlon (indoor), the Heptathlon (outdoor) and both the 100m & 400m hurdles (outdoor). At the 2019 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, Schneider won the 100m hurdle race as ran a leg on the 4x400m EC relay team that placed first. She also won the 400m hurdle race during the 2018 GNAC/NECC Dual Meeting Championship and was a member of the 2019-20 GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championship team. |

Senior Leadership Award - William Burdick (Men's Soccer) Given annually to a senior athlete who has distinguished his or herself by demonstrating the qualities desired to lead successful teams throughout his or her athletic career. SENIOR SUMMARY: Willy closed his playing career with 65 games played for the Saints and has been a mainstay in the starting lineup the last three seasons earning 62 career starts to rank tied for 10th all-time in games played and fifth all-time in starts. He's served as a team captain each of the last two seasons and over his career amassed a total of 11 points on five goals and one assist. All five goals came during his sophomore season when he earned the Coaches' Appreciation Award. The Scarborough, Maine native has seen action over his career in both the midfield and defensive unit and was been named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team each of the last three seasons. He was tabbed the 2019 EC Men's Soccer team Unsung Hero by the coaching staff. |

Senior Inspiration Award - Natalie Dash (Women's Soccer) Honors the outstanding senior athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. SENIOR SUMMARY: Natalie played in 74 total contests over her four years on the Women's Soccer team, earning 51 starts throughout her career with the Saints. She graduated ranking in the Top 12 in several offensive categories, ranking 10th all-time in goals with 23, 11th all-time in assists with 15 and 12th all-time in career points with 61. The tri-captain also has eight career game-winning goals to rank tied for fourth most in a White, Blue & Gold jersey. Dash earned GNAC First Team All-Conference honors as both a junior and senior and also earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors following the 2019 campaign. An excellent scholar, she has been named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team each of the last three years. |

Senior Inspiration Award - Ashley Longo (Dance Team) Honors the outstanding senior athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. SENIOR SUMMARY: Ashley has been on Dance Team all four years while enrolled at Emmanuel and has also been a part of the Emmanuel College Dance Marathon every year at school, raising money for the Boston Children's Hospital. She is someone who not only worked hard every day at Dance Team practice but constantly showed the same care and kindness in every aspect of her campus life. She lives and breathes for helping others and bringing joy to those around her, and that is what she has done consistently for her four years at Emmanuel. Ashley was selected as the Most Improved Player on the 2018-19 Dance Team while earning MVP honors for her 2019-20 senior season. |

Saints Club Award - Sarah Hoisl (Softball) Honors the senior athlete who best represents and exemplifies the spirit of the College's athletic program. SENIOR SUMMARY: Sarah was a four-year starter for the Saints and appeared in 126 games to rank in the Top 10 all-time at Emmanuel. The centerfielder enjoyed a breakout junior campaign by hitting .324 at the plate en route to being named to the GNAC All-Conference team as an outfielder. Over her career she collected 85 hits, scored 64 runs, registered 50 RBI and stolen 29 bases. Sarah is also a two-time GNAC Academic All-Conference selection and has also been picked as the EC Softball Unsung Hero each of the last two seasons to go along with the Saints GNAC Sportsmanship Team representative last year. |

Saints Club Award - Kayla Weaver (Women's Basketball) Honors the senior athlete who best represents and exemplifies the spirit of the College's athletic program. SENIOR SUMMARY: A four-year program member, Kayla played in 114 games with 80 career starts to rank ninth in program history. The West Haven, Connecticut native scored 1,034 points and added 324-assist for her career to move into eighth all-time. Weaver also has 274 steals to rank fifth in program history to go along with 269 career rebounds. Known for her defensive intensity, Weaver was named the 2019 and 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Saints to a pair of GNAC Championships. She earned GNAC All-Conference honors both seasons and was tabbed the 2020 GNAC Tournament MVP and to the 2018 GNAC All-Tournament Team. She has been named a three-time GNAC Academic All-Conference selection and has been awarded the Women's Basketball Team Unsung Hero Award as a sophomore and junior as well as the team MVP award as a senior. |

HALO'S Award - Kylie Rice (Women's Lacrosse) Honors the senior athlete who best represents Emmanuel with Heart, Attitude, Loyalty, Outstanding athletic ability and demonstrated success as a Student. SENIOR SUMMARY: Kylie was a four-year starter and appeared in 45 matches over her career. She became just the ninth player in program history to reach 100 career points last season and caps her senior campaign with 141 points to rank fifth all-time. She scored 94 career goals to rank fourth while dishing out 47 assists to rank fifth in EC history while also ranking in the top-10 all-time in draw controls, free position goals, man-up and man-down goals. Rice was named to the 2019 GNAC All-Conference team last season following a standout campaign in which she recorded 71 points, the fourth-highest single-season total in EC history, along with being named the team MVP for the second consecutive season. She also appeared on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll six times over her career, was a two-time GNAC Academic All-Conference recipient and earned GNAC Player of the Week honors for the final week of her playing career at EC. She joined her fellow seniors in being named the 2020 Women's Lacrosse MVP this season. |

HALO'S Award - Jonathan Ferrarini (Men's Soccer) Honors the senior athlete who best represents Emmanuel with Heart, Attitude, Loyalty, Outstanding athletic ability and demonstrated success as a Student. SENIOR SUMMARY: Jonny will go down as one of the most decorated goalkeepers in Emmanuel College history, capping his career with 66 appearances/starts to rank first all-time among keepers. The Hanover, Mass. native ranks first all-time in career victories (20), minutes played (5,897), tied for first in career shutouts (13). He ranks second in total saves (366) and career goals against average (1.59) and fourth all-time in career save percentage (.779). In 2017, the Business Management major set the Emmanuel single-season record for saves with 140 and in 2016 he set the single-season wins record with eight victories in net. Named a captain as a junior and senior, Jonny has been named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week five times over his career and was named the Team MVP following his sophomore season while earning Coach's Appreciation accolades in 2019 as a senior. |

Andrew Yosinoff Athletic Achievement Award - Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Women's Basketball & Softball) Given annually to a senior athlete who has excelled on the playing field and provided the greatest contribution to the athletic reputation of Emmanuel College through exceptional athletic achievement. SENIOR SUMMARY (WBB): Yuleska transferred to Emmanuel following a one-year stint at Division I Indiana University at Purdue Fort Wayne and was a mainstay in the starting lineup the last three years. The Cambridge, Mass. native established herself as one of the top players in program history, finishing her career with 1,596 points to rank third in scoring and second in rebounding with 935 boards. She appeared in the GNAC Weekly Report 26 times in three years, earning seven GNAC Player of the Week honors to go along with 19 Honor Roll appearances. A three-time GNAC First Team All-Conference selection, Ramirez-Tejeda was named the 2019 GNAC Tourney MVP and went on to earn All-New England honors her final two seasons. A standout in the classroom, Yuleska was also the program's first CoSIDA Academic All-American (2x) and was named a D3Hoop.com Second Team All-American and Preseason All-American on the court her senior campaign. SENIOR SUMMARY (SB): Yuleska was been a three-year starter for the Saints Softball squad and enjoyed a breakout junior campaign in which she was named the GNAC Player of the Year, an NFCA All-New England selection and a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. She was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2020 and set the Emmanuel single-season record last year with 10 home runs and over her career at Emmanuel appeared in 76 games, belting 18 home runs while hitting .396 to go along with an .813 slugging percentage. She amassed 76 hits over her career despite missing several weeks each year due to basketball crossover. Additionally, she finished with 68 RBI, 59 runs scored and 29 stolen bases for EC. |

Andrew Yosinoff Athletic Achievement Award - Kaylin Deschenes (Women's Soccer) Given annually to a senior athlete who has excelled on the playing field and provided the greatest contribution to the athletic reputation of Emmanuel College through exceptional athletic achievement. SENIOR SUMMARY: Kaylin was a four-year starter for the Women's Soccer program, appearing in 75 career matches while earning 64 starts. She saw time in both the Saints' front and backline units and during her tenure accumulated 42 total points on 15 goals and 12 assists. The senior captain enjoyed a breakout junior campaign after transitioning to the centerback position in which she earned GNAC First Team and GNAC Defensive Player of the Year honors while earning Second Team All-New England honors when she helped the team post a program-record 10 shutouts. She followed it up with almost idential numbers as a senior to once again earn GNAC First Team and Defensive Player of the Year honors to become the only player in conference history to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors twice during their career. She also was named to New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) First Team All-Region squad as well as the United Soccer Coaches All-Region team for the second straight year. |

Andrew Yosinoff Athletic Achievement Award - Emmett Riddick (Men's Basketball) Given annually to a senior athlete who has excelled on the playing field and provided the greatest contribution to the athletic reputation of Emmanuel College through exceptional athletic achievement. SENIOR SUMMARY: A four-year player and starter for the Saints, Emmett graduates among the Men's Basketball program leaders in several career categories. He appeared in 96 games with 82 starts and ranks second in career-scoring average (15.5 ppg), third all-time in scoring with 1,492 points, third in free throws made (330), third in assists with 258 dimes, sixth in steals with 113 thefts and seventh in games started, The Connecticut native has appeared on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll 12 times over his career and was named to the 2019 GNAC All-Tournament Team. He was selected to both the 2019 and 2020 GNAC All-Conference Second Team as voted by the GNAC Coaches and was named the 2019-20 Team MVP by his Emmanuel coaching staff. |
