TROY, N.Y. – Emmanuel College sent nine qualified student-athletes to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on May 15-16. Both Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) earned All-ECAC honors for their top-eight finishes in their respective events.
Bruno, a four-year standout on the Saints men's track & field team and a 2013 All-American in the 400mH, ran his event in 54.11 to place 4th overall and earn All-ECAC honors. Bruno finished his senior season ranked 22nd nationally in the 400mH and just missed out on a return trip to the NCAA Championships by 200ths of a second. Junior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) also competed in the 400mH at the ECACs. Thomas ran near his season best time, finishing in 55.39, to earn 10th place overall.
Julien raced in a pair of individual events, including the 200m and 400m races. The junior entered the ECAC Championships ranked 14th in the ECAC with his qualifying time of 49.03 in the 400m. He ran a 49.81 400m race on Friday to finish 7th overall and land a spot on the All-ECAC team. Julien's 22.53 time in the men's 200m was good enough for 22nd overall.
Both, senior captain Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.), qualified for the ECACs in the high jump. Ulf was the only athlete to score, finishing out her career with a 23rd place performance by hitting 5'0.50" in the high jump.
Prior to their individual events on Friday afternoon, Bruno, Thomas and Julien teamed up with senior captain Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) for the men's 4x400m relay on Thursday evening. The squad ran seven seconds off their season-best to finish in 3:26.73 and snag 23rd place.
Bruno also competed with the men's 4x800m relay team along with Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.), Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) and Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) in the final event of the Championships on Friday afternoon. The foursome entered the Championships ranked 39th in the ECAC and ran down 11th place with their combined time of 8:06.52.
