NINE SAINTS SET TO COMPETE IN TRACK & FIELD ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
TROY, N.Y. – Nine members of the Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams will compete later this week in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The Championships will kick off on Thursday, May 15th with events running through Friday, May 16th.
TROY, N.Y. – Nine members of the Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams will compete later this week in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The Championships will kick off on Thursday, May 15th with events running through Friday, May 16th.
Leading the way for Emmanuel will be senior Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.), who is competing in his individual 400mH event, as well as on two men's relay teams. Bruno turned in a time of 52.43 last year at the NCAA Championships to earn 6th place and All-American honors. His top time this season in the 400mH is 53.57, which Bruno ran at the Regis Pride Classic on April 27th. He is currently ranked 21st nationally and 10th in the ECAC in the 400mH.
Junior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) has also qualified for the ECACs in the 400mH. Thomas ranks 29th among his ECAC competitors with his fastest time of the season, 55.33, coming on April 12th at Wesleyan University's Swanson Invite. He and Bruno will compete in the 400mH on Friday at 2:35 PM.
Junior Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) has qualified and will compete in both the men's 200m and 400m races. Julien's best event of the two is the 400m. He is currently ranked 14th in the ECAC with his qualifying time of 49.03, which he ran back on April 12th at Wesleyan University's Swanson Invite. Julien also ranks 45th among his ECAC competitors in the 200m, with his top time of the season, 22.29, coming on April 19th at the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT. Julien's 400m race will take place at 1:25 PM on Friday and his 200m race is slated to begin just an hour and a half later at 3:05 PM.
Prior to their individual events on Friday, Julien, Thomas and Bruno will team up with senior captain Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) for the men's 4x400m relay on Thursday evening at 5:30 PM. The squad's fastest time (3:19.83) was run on April 19th at the Sean Collier Invitational and ranks Emmanuel 13th in the ECAC.
Bruno will also compete with Emmanuel's men's 4x800m relay team in the final event of the Championships on Friday afternoon. Bruno, along with team captain Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.), Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) and Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) currently rank 39th in the ECAC with their combined season-best time of 8:04.65 from April 12th's Swanson Invite. The men's 4x800m race is slated to being at 3:35 PM on Friday.
Two Emmanuel women have qualified for the ECACs in the high jump. Senior captain Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) will take to the field on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM. The duo qualified for the ECACs with their 5'2.25" jumps last week at the New England Division III Championships.
