SAINTS EXCEL IN DIVISION III NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Emmanuel College was represented by 18 student-athletes at the Division III New England Track & Field Championships this weekend. The 18 Saints competed in nine different events, including five individual events and four relays, on the campus of Springfield College. Two Emmanuel athletes earned All-New England honors and a pair qualified for further competition in the ECAC Championships next week.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Emmanuel College was represented by 18 student-athletes at the Division III New England Track & Field Championships this weekend. The 18 Saints competed in nine different events, including five individual events and four relays, on the campus of Springfield College. Two Emmanuel athletes earned All-New England honors and a pair qualified for further competition in the ECAC Championships next week.
Leading the way for Emmanuel was senior Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.), who earned All-New England honors in the men's 400mH. Bruno finished 3rd overall with his time of 53.86. Junior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) finished 14th in the same event with his time of 55.78.
Senior Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) hit a qualifying mark in the women's high jump. Ulf reached 5'2.25" for her personal best and took 7th place to earn All-New England honors and qualify for the ECAC Championships. Ulf's teammate and freshman Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) placed 12th overall in the high jump, also hitting 5'2.25" and qualified for the ECACs. Ulf turned in a 13th place performance in the long jump with her longest jump of the day at 16'7.75".
The men's 4x400m relay team finished with a 10th place performance. The squad of Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.), Thomas, Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) and Bruno combined for a time of 3:23.52.
Senior captain Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) represented the Saints in the women's 3k steeplechase. The Emmanuel record-holder in this event finished 21st overall with her time of 12:44.87.
Mauer was also a part of the women's 4x800m relay squad, along with Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.), Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) and Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.). The team combined for a time of 10:17.40 and crossed the line in 10th place.
On the men's side, Emmanuel's 4x800m relay team consisted of Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.), Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) and Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) The team finished 16th in a time of 8:19.79.
Sophomore Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) ran her personal record time in the women's 400m. Pierce-Dickens' time of 60.93 was good enough for 21st place overall. Pierce-Dickens also anchored the women's 4x100m relay team, competing with Shannon Gay (Woburn, Mass.), Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) and Katherine Zombik (Holyoke, Mass.). The team placed 19th with their combined time of 51.85.
Next up for several Saints is the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, which will be held on May 15-16 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Several EC athletes have qualified for the ECAC Championships. Bruno and Thomas will compete in the 400mH. Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) will compete in the men's 200m and 400m. The men's 4x400m relay team of Julien, Thomas, Perdue and Bruno, as well as the men's 4x800m relay team of Callan, Tallo, Baker and Bruno will also compete in the ECACs.
