TRACK TEAMS CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON WITH 5 WINS AT REGIS PRIDE CLASSIC
WESTON, Mass. – The Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams wrapped up the regular season on Sunday afternoon, competing in the Pride Classic on the campus of Regis College. The Saints not only won five events, they also turned in 10 personal records, to go along with 16 other top-five finishes and a new Emmanuel College program record.
WESTON, Mass. – The Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams wrapped up the regular season on Sunday afternoon, competing in the Pride Classic on the campus of Regis College. The Saints turned in 10 personal records, to go along with 21 top-five finishes and a new Emmanuel College program record.
Senior captain Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) added her name to another spot in the Emmanuel College record books with her 5th place finish in the women's 3K steeplechase. Mauer's time of 12:28.71 was a half a second under the prior EC record, which had been in place since the 2008 season. Mauer's new record time also qualified her for the Division III New England Championships in this event.
Competing in his final regular season collegiate meet, senior Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) ran down his personal record in the men's 800m. Callan's time of 2:01.49 was good enough for 5th place, while teammate Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) grabbed 7th in 2:03.04. Sophomore Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) notched his PR of 2:09.55 in the same race.
Senior Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) picked up his fifth win of the season in the men's 400mH. Bruno's 1st place time of 53.57 was an improvement on his ECAC qualifying time and he now ranks 3rd in New England and 14th nationally in this event. Junior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) earned another 2nd place performance in the 400mH, finishing just behind Bruno in 55.54. He currently ranks 10th in New England in this event. Senior Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) added a 3rd place performance to the 400mH race, helping Emmanuel to sweep the podium, as he crossed the line in 60.14.
Thomas also notched a 2nd place finish in the 110mH, crossing the line in 16.79. His best time on the season (15.70) ranks him 23rd in New England. On the women's side, freshman Katherine Zombik (Holyoke, Mass.) placed 3rd in the 100mH in 17.02.
Sophomore Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) raced to a 4th place finish in the 400m with her time of 62.46. On the men's side, Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) finished 2nd in 51-flat. Julien's top 400m time in 2014 (49.03) ranks him 3rd in New England and 45th nationally, heading into the Division III New England Championships this weekend. Julien also finished 3rd at Regis in the 200m, finishing in 23.25. His season best time in the 200m puts him at 14th in New England.
Junior Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) snagged 3rd place in the women's 400mH with a time of 73.40, while Valeria Fernandez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) took 5th in her PR time of 80.22. Freshman Shannon Gay (Woburn, Mass.) finished 3rd in the 200m, crossing the line in 27.70. Classmate Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) earned her PR in the 200m with a time of 28.29. Gay also earned a PR in her 100m race, finishing in 13.35.
The four EC relay squads all earned top-three finishes, including a pair of wins by the men's 4x400m and the 4x800m teams. Bruno, Julien and Thomas teamed up with senior captain Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) for a win in the 4x400m relay, finishing in 3:24.60. Tallo, Callan and Baker grabbed rookie Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) for an 8:14.19 win in the men's 4x800m relay.
Gay, Fraccalossi, Zombik and Pierce-Dickens sprinted to a 3rd place finish in the women's 4x100, relay with their combined time of 52.65. Senior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) ran the lead off leg of the women's 4x800m, which also included Egan, Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) and Mauer. The team combined for a time of 10:41.72 to finish 3rd overall.
Other notable performances on the track included a PR of 16:45.98 by Chris Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) in the men's 5K. Sophomore Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) earned 5th place in the men's 3K steeplechase with his time of 10:54.93.
In the field, senior captain Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) earned a win in the women's long jump, reaching 16'2.75. She also snagged 2nd in the high jump with her jump of 4'11.75. Freshman Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) took 1st place in the high jump, also hitting 4'11.75. For the Emmanuel men, Timothy Hopp (Stoneham, Mass.) was 4th overall, jumping 5'7".
The qualifying Emmanuel student-athletes will compete this coming weekend at Springfield College in the New England Division III Championships.
