TRACK & FIELD TURNS IT UP AT SWANSON INVITE
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Emmanuel Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Team’s returned to Wesleyan University for the second time this season and competed in the Elmer Swanson Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Saints recorded several top-notch performances, posting wins in four different events and with three Division III New England qualifying performances and four ECAC qualifiers.
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Track & Field Team's returned to Wesleyan University for the second time this season and competed in the Elmer Swanson Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Saints recorded several top-notch performances, posting wins in four different events and with three Division III New England qualifying performances and four ECAC qualifiers.
Junior sprinter Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) had a huge day, winning the 400m and taking 3rd place in the 200m. Julien's 400m time of 49.03 qualified him for the ECAC Championships. His 200m time of 22.36 set a new Emmanuel program-record in this event.
On the women's side, sophomore Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) captured 4th place in the 400m, running her personal best time of 62.75. Pierce-Dickens also PRed in the women's 200m with her time of 27.16.
Nate Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and Ryan Thomas (Wakefield R.I.) went one-two again in the men's 400mH. Bruno crossed the line first in 54.15 and Thomas followed in 55.3. Both qualified for the ECAC Championships in this event.
Senior captain Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) picked up a win in the men's 800m with his time of 1:59.15. Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) followed in 2:02.33 for a personal record time.
Julien and Thomas also teamed up with Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) and Parker Dubuque (Stratham, N.H.) for a 4th place finish in the men's 4x100m relay. The team's cumulative time of 44.65 qualified them for the Division III New England Championships.
The women's 4x100m relay featured Pierce-Dickens anchoring the squad, along with Shannon Gay (Woburn, Mass.), Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) and Katherine Zombik (Holyoke, Mass.). The team's time of 52.26 was good enough for 5th place and also qualified them for the Division III New England Championships.
Senior captain Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) led the Saints' distance runners with her PR in the 1500m. Mauer's time of 5:24.28 earned her 3rd place overall. Sophomore Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) took 5th with her time of 5:28.88.
Senior Michael Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) ran a 4:28.42 time in the 1500m for 3rd place on the men's side. Junior Chris Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) grabbed 5th place with his personal best time of 4:32.38. Classmate Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) also PRed in this event with his time of 4:44.28. Max Bukowiec (York, Me.) ran a 17:50.49 5k race to snag 5th place for the Saints.
Emmanuel did not run a 4x400m relay on Saturday, but both the men and women performed well in their 4x800m relay events. The Emmanuel men won the 4x800m with a combined time of 8:04.65. The team, consisting of Baker, Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), Callan and Bruno, turned in a time of 8:04.65 and qualified for the ECAC Championships.
The women's 4x800m team featured Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.), Roberts, Olivia Wakefield (Easton, Mass.) and Mauer and the squad turned in a combined time of 10:51.15, finishing 2nd overall and qualifying for the Division III New England Championships.
Senior captain Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) had another impressive day in her field events. Ulf hit 4'11.75 in the high jump to nab 2nd place, along with teammate Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.). Ulf picked up another 2nd place finish in the women's long jump, leaping 16'1.75.
The Saints will compete again this Saturday, April 19, when they travel across the river to compete in the MIT Invitational.
