2010 SEASON IN REVIEW
June 8, 2010
The Emmanuel College Softball Team wrapped up the 2010 season with a 10-21 overall record and a 6-18 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Saints played their first season on the newly renovated Roberto Clemente Field, hosting 12 games on the new synthetic turf. Emmanuel posted big wins over GNAC opponents, Norwich University, Johnson & Wales University and Albertus Magnus College. The Saints ended the season with a huge 6-5 walk-off victory over GNAC rival Pine Manor College.
Third-year Head Coach Michelle Morales graduated seven seniors this year, including Erin McSheffrey (Woburn, Mass.), Kristina Borrelli (Kingston, Mass.), Sarah Palmer-Thompson (Dennis, Mass.), Danielle Andruskiwec (Orange, Conn.), Deanna Mastrovito (Worcester, Mass.), Samantha Luther (Carlisle, Mass.) and Chelsie Baldwin (Canonsburg, Pa.). The seven upperclassmen were part of the Saints' line-up for the past four years and provided much needed leadership for the nine sophomores and freshmen.
Several Emmanuel players received individual honors this season. Andruskiwec and freshman pitcher Kelly Lloid (Issaquah, Wash.) were named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on March 15th. Sophomores Kathryn Copp (Fremont, N.H.) and Chelsey Guselli (Methuen, Mass.) received the same honor on March 22nd and classmate Elyse Turgeon (Dracut, Mass.) was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on April 12th.
The Saints were standouts in the classrooms at Emmanuel as well. Nine of Emmanuel's sixteen players were named GNAC Academic All-Conference, boasting a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.25. Among them were: Andruskiwec, Copp, Guselli, Luther, Baldwin, Borrelli, Mastrovito, Palmer-Thompson and Christina Proulx (Boxborough, Mass.). As a team, the softball players won the 2009-2010 President's Cup, an award given to the Emmanuel varsity athletic program with the highest cumulative grade point average.
Coach Morales and Assistant Coaches Paul Greene, Howie Harrison and Katie Foley will return nine players for the 2011 season. The coaches will bring in a strong class of recruits to compliment the veterans for next year's campaign.
