CROSS COUNTRY RUNS WELL AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

GORHAM, Maine - Emmanuel College wrapped the 2017 cross country campaign racing at the NCAA Division III New England Championships on Saturday afternoon. Hosted by the University of Southern Maine, the Men’s race saw MIT bring home the title with 81 points while the Engineers also captured the Women’s race for a sweep.  Emmanuel ran well in their final race of the season as the women finished 31st out of 56 teams while the men finished 33rd out of 55 teams competing.

GORHAM, Maine - Emmanuel College wrapped the 2017 cross country campaign racing at the NCAA Division III New England Championships on Saturday afternoon. Hosted by the University of Southern Maine, the Men's race saw MIT bring home the title with 81 points while the Engineers also captured the Women's race for a sweep.  Emmanuel ran well in their final race of the season as the women finished 31st out of 56 teams while the men finished 33rd out of 55 teams competing.

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS

  • Coast Guard freshman Kaitlyn Mooney topped the women's field with a time of 20:22, to win the individual crown in the 6K women's race.
  • On the men's side, Plymouth State junior Sam Brunnette placed first overall with a time of 25:22 in the 8K race.

EMMANUEL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Freshman Pearl Vercruysse (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) was the top Emmanuel female to cross the finish, clocking in at 23:22 which was good for 100th overall while classmate Stephanie Forester (East Walpole, Mass.) was just behind her in 107th place with a time of 23:24
  • Junior Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) finished 207th with a time of 24:44. 
  • Junior Katherine Holmberg (Easton, Mass.) and senior Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) ran the 6K course in 25:33 and 25:37, respectively to round out the women's top five
  • Sophomore Patrick Carty (Sweden, Maine) was the top male finisher for the Saints, placing 112th in the field with a time of 27:21 on the 8K course
  • Sophomore Erik Brobst (Freeport, Maine) was next for Emmanuel with a finish of 28:02 in 143rd place
  • Rookie Trevor Hajj (Gilmanton, N.H.) crossed the line in 215th
  • First year Matthew Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) ran the course in 31:06 while junior Jefferson Zannoni (Merrimack, N.H.) placed 279th with a time of 31:12.
