SAINTS POST TWELVE WINS AT REGIS COLLEGE PRIDE CLASSIC

WESTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Track & Field Teams competed in their final meet of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Regis College. The Saints met with great success on the day, including five Division III New England qualifying performances, three relay wins, and nine athletes achieving 1st place in their individual events.
Emmanuel’s jumpers highlighted the field events, with two
athletes needing big numbers to qualify for post-season
competition. Both, Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg,
Mass.) and freshman Sam Ferraro
(Southwick, Mass.) were successful in doing so, and will extend
their seasons into the Division III New Englands. Ulf
garnered three first place wins on the day, including victories in
the long jump, triple jump and high jump. The
sophomore’s 16’6” long jump and
5’1.75” high jump qualified her for post-season
competition. Ferraro earned 2nd place in long jump, triple
jump and high jump. Ferraro’s triple jump of
42’7” was a Division III New England qualifier for the
rookie.
In addition to the jumpers, the Saints continued to shine in the
field events. Junior Mitch Moise (Medford,
Mass.) picked up 2nd place in the hammer with his personal best
throw of 105’1”. Senior captain Gregory Brown
(Norton, Mass.) earned 4th place and senior Kyle Ford-Withrow
(Boston, Mass.) achieved his PR with a 6th place throw of
81’5.75”. Ford-Withrow snagged 5th place in the
discus with a distance of 103’1”. Moise also PRed
in the shot put with a throw good enough for 5th place and reaching
32’3.75”. Sophomore program-record holder
David Weiss
(Cohasset, Mass.) launched the javelin 162’3” to win
the event for the Saints.
On the women’s side, senior captain Kathleen King
(Hopkinton, Mass.) nabbed 3rd place in the discus
(98’10”) and 5th place in the hammer
(93’6”). Junior Nathalie
Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) set her personal record in the
javelin with a 5th place throw reaching 89’3”.
Victoria also earned one of Emmanuel’s 1st place wins on the
track, as she sprinted to a victory in the 100m with a time of
13.98. Sophomore Ben Perdue (West
Springfield, Mass.) earned 2nd place in the men’s 200m with a
dash of 12 seconds flat. Perdue cruised to a 23.37-second win
in the 200m, while Victoria notched 3rd in the women’s 200m
with a time of 28.08.
Emmanuel men swept the top three positions in the 800m, with Abdi Ibrahim
(East Boston, Mass.), Adam Julien (New
Orleans, La.) and Chris Baker (Holden,
Mass.) sprinting in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
Julien’s time of 1:59.44 was a personal best for the
freshman. In the women’s race, junior Julie Young (Derry,
N.H.) earned 2nd place with a time of 2:31.31.
The Saints got two Division III New England qualifying performances
in the 400m. Senior Katasi Kulubya
(Anaheim, Calif.) bettered her time in the women’s 400m with
a 60.04 finish, just .04 off an ECAC qualifier, finishing in 2nd
place overall. Sophomore Nathan Bruno (Lenox,
Mass.) qualified for New Englands by grabbing 2nd place with his
50.08 personal best in the 400m.
Freshman Ryan
Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.), who had previously qualified for
post-season competition, sprinted to a win in the men’s 400m
hurdles with a time of 59.27. Thomas also earned 2nd place in
the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.10. Senior Jordan Coulombe
(Saco, Me.) sprinted in at 18.62, to pick up 4th place in the
event. Senior Shannon McCabe
(Charlestown, R.I.) won the event on the women’s side with
her time of 16.77.
Junior captain Joslyn
DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) ran a 5:19.61 time in the 1500, to
take 3rd place. Sophomore Meaghan Mauer (South
Hadley, Mass.) cut several seconds off her PR, placing 6th with a
time of 5:26.41. Classmate Danielle Martin
(York, Me.) ran 7th with a time of 5:28.43. On the
men’s side, sophomore Michael Morris
(Stoughton, Mass.) took 3rd place in 4:35.04.
Sophomore Patrick Callan
(Pawling, N.Y.) and freshman Christopher
Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) both PRed in the men’s
3000m. Callan earned 2nd place (9:33.82), while Connelly
grabbed 4th (10:35.37).
Emmanuel’s relay teams paced the field on Sunday, earning
three wins and a second place finish. The Saints 4x400m
women’s team of Kulubya, Victoria, McCabe and Lauren Gogel (East
Longmeadow, Mass.) took 1st with their cumulative time of
4:27.60. The quartet of Young, DelSignore, Mauer and Martin
were victorious in the 4x800m with a time of 10:59.13.
Emmanuel ran two men’s teams in the 4x800m and the Saints
powered their way to a 1st and 2nd sweep. Julien, Ibrahim, Eric Donnelly
(Halifax, Mass.) and Morris ran 1st with a time of 8:55.13.
Bruno, Baker, Brian Collins (Hull,
Mass.) and Coulombe took 2nd with their team total of 9:22.07.
The Regis Pride Classic concluded the regular season for the
Emmanuel outdoor track teams, but the Saints will be sending
several athletes to post-season competition, including:

Most of these athletes will first compete on May 4th at MIT in the
New England Division III Championships. Those that have
qualified for the ECAC Championships will compete on May 17th at
RPI in Rensselaer, N.Y.
