SAINTS TO TAKE ON MOUNT IDA IN GNAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY
Nov. 1, 2010
Emmanuel College has earned the 5th seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball tournament. The Saints wrapped up the regular season at 17-13 overall and 8-4 in conference play. Emmanuel will take on the 4th-seeded Mustangs of Mount Ida College in one of four GNAC quarterfinal matches being played on Tuesday night (11/2). The Saints and Mustangs are slated to take the court at 7pm on the Mount Ida College campus in Newton, Mass.
Emmanuel, which is currently on an eight-match win streak, will be making its 12th-straight GNAC Tournament appearance. Last season, the Saints went as far as the GNAC semifinals, suffering a 3-0 loss to Johnson & Wales University. Emmanuel then received a bid to the ECAC post-season tournament.
Mount Ida finished the 2010 regular season at 21-7 overall and 8-4 against GNAC competition. Last season the Mustangs dropped to Rivier College in GNAC quarterfinal action.
Over the history of the program at Emmanuel, the Saints have made two ECAC Tournament appearances and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Emmanuel's prior GNAC Championships came in three consecutive years (2005, 2006, 2007). The winner of the 2010 GNAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.
Tuesday night's contest will be a rematch of the five-set battle that took place in Newton back on September 18th of this season. The Mustangs were victorious in that match, winning 3-2.
