WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOWNS NEWBURY, 3-0

BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Newbury College women’s volleyball team was defeated by visiting Emmanuel College in three quick sets (25-13, 25-14, 25-15) on Tuesday night at Hellenic College in Brookline, Mass. The Saints were led by junior Megan Murray (Killingworth, Conn.) who recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs on the night. Emmanuel came on strong and never looked back, earning the 16th overall win of the season. The Saints now stand at 16-10 on the season and are 9-1 and ranked 2nd in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
In addition to Murray’s effort, teammates Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) and Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) each slammed down eight kills to balance the Saints’ offensive attack. Sophomore setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) handed out a match-high 25 assists, while Megan Clary (Cumberland, R.I.) and Samantha Andazola (Queen Creek, Ariz.) tallied 12 digs apiece to lead Emmanuel’s defense.
Despite the loss, Newbury received a solid performance from sophomore Tricia Corriveau (Coventry, R.I.) who came away with a team-high six kills and 14 digs. Before the match, the Nighthawks honored lone senior Sarah Nelson (Bernardston, Mass.) for her hard work and dedication to the volleyball program. Nelson has played in 256 career games and registered 967 career assists. Currently, she leads Newbury in service aces with 53.
Newbury travels to Becker College on Saturday, October 31st for a tri-match to include fellow conference rival Mitchell College. Emmanuel will host Wheaton College on Thursday night, October 29th, at 7pm.
