OWLS SWARM SAINTS IN NON-CONFERENCE TILT

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State College women’s volleyball team blanked the Saints of Emmanuel College 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-19) on Wednesday night at Spaulding Gymnasium. With the win the Owls improve to 10-14 on the season, while Emmanuel drops to 13-8 on the 2009 campaign.
The Owls controlled game one and never trailed and led by as many as nine en route to a 25-16 win. Junior defensive specialist Jamie Levine (Medfield, Mass.) ended the set with a service ace. The sophomore tandem of Bridget O’Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) and Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H) paced Keene State with four kills apiece, while senior setter Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, Alaska) put up 12 assists.
In game two, Tiffani Brooks (Salem, Conn.) led the Owls with five kills, followed by O’Bryant and Davis with three kills each on the way to a 25-17 win. The Saints took their first lead of the match in game three, when Nicole McAllister (Hampden, Maine) served up an ace to take a 6-5 Emmanuel College lead. But the Owls would prove to be too much, and O’Bryant served out the match with two service aces to lift Keene State past Emmanuel 25-19.
O’Bryant had a game-high 14 kills and pitched in with eight digs. Brooks and Davis had 12 and 10 kill night’s respectively and both hit over .429 on the match. Senior libero Abby Rosen (Hebron, Conn.) had a game-high 13 digs in the win, while Pokryfki had 39 helpers on the night.
The Saints were led by junior outside-hitter Megan Murray (Killingworth, Conn.) and her seven kills followed by McAllister’s six kill night. Sophomore setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) had 22 assists, while freshman libero Samantha Andazola (Queen Creek, Arizona) had a team-high 12 digs in the losing effort.
The Owls return to action tomorrow night at Babson at 7 p.m., while the Saints hit the hard-court again this Saturday with a GNAC tri-match in Newton, Mass. against Johnson & Wales and Lasell College.
