WESTON, Mass. – Emmanuel women's volleyball postseason run came to an end on Tuesday night, after a straight sets sweep loss (25-21, 25-13, 25-16) at the No. 2 seeded Regis Pride in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals at the Regis Athletic Complex.
The opening set momentum turned toward Regis in the middle of the set after an 8-2 run put the Pride ahead 15-9. That six-point lead would vanish toward the end of the set, with the Saints using their own scoring spurt of 11-5, to tie the set at 20-20. But, five of the final six points favored Regis, capped off by an assisted block by senior Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and first-year Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.), giving Regis the 25-21 set win.
The Pride were off and running early in the second set, winning the first five points and 17 of the first 22 overall, jumping out to a 17-5 edge. The Saints pulled within eight, thanks to a 4-0 run that included back-to-back kills for first-year Brielle Hardy (Billerica, Mass.), but the Pride's lead was too much to overcome as the final four points went to Regis in the 25-13 set win.
The third and final set again started with a quick lead by Regis, winning 9 of the first 11 points. Emmanuel fought back to stay in the set, but another early Regis lead was too much to overcome as a combo block, this time for Montigny and sophomore Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.), sent the Pride into the GNAC Semifinals with a 25-16 set victory.
First-year Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) led the way for Regis, finishing the match with seven kills. Fabiano and senior Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) each had six kills for the Pride. Mckinney hit a team-best .455 on the evening.
Saints sophomore Isabella Marquez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) finished up a breakout season with a match-high 10 kills. Senior Brigid Moriarty (Westfield, Mass.) had a dozen assists while junior Paula Tanguilig (Sandwich, Mass.) finished with 12 digs.
The Pride (25-7) resume in the GNAC Postseason with a Thursday, Nov. 9 match against No. 6 seeded Saint Joseph's College (ME) at the Regis Athletic Complex.
As for the Saints, their season comes to a close at 17-11, a season that included their first playoff victory since 2015.
