BOSTON – The Regis Pride hit .276 from the floor, combining for 41 total kills over three sets, completing a straight sets sweep of the Emmanuel Saints (25-16, 25-23, 25-21) on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play in the Jean Yawkey Center.
After a back-and-forth opening to the match, Regis took the first swing of momentum with a 9-1 scoring run in the middle of the first set to open up a 15-8 edge. The Saints fought back to as close as four, but the Pride slammed the door shut on a comeback, claiming the final four points of the first in a 25-16 set win. Regis combined for 12 kills and just one error to hit a match-best .458 in the first set.
The Pride were off and running to open the second set, leading by as many as seven through the middle of the frame. Regis led by six before the Saints came back with their biggest run of the evening, a 10-2 spurt to overtake the lead at 19-17. The two sides fought to a 22-22 tie, but a Regis service ace and a pair of kills by junior Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) clinched the second for Regis at 25-23.
In the third and final set, the Pride again used a streak in the middle of the frame, this time stringing together six consecutive points to hold a 16-9 lead. The Saints fought valiantly, cutting the deficit to as few as three in the late stages, but Regis's first-year Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) delivered the final blow with a kill and a 25-21 set win.
Fabiano led the Pride with 13 kills to go along with four block assists. The first-year right-side hitter finished with a .310 attack percentage. Senior Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with nine kills, 17 assists, and five digs while hitting an outstanding .692 on 13 attempts with no errors. Tenorio and first-year Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) each had three service aces.
Saints sophomore Isabella Marquez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had a team-high nine kills to go with nine digs. Classmate Wiktoria Galazyn (Plainville, Conn.) chipped in with six kills and seven digs while junior Paula Tanguilig (Sandwich, Mass.) led the team with 14 digs.
The Saints (12-7, 7-4 GNAC) have dropped three straight, all to teams above them in the GNAC standings. Emmanuel looks to break the slide with a Saturday tri-match at Colby-Sawyer with the Chargers and non-conference foe, Bates.
Regis (16-6, 7-1 GNAC) are winners of their last seven, including a perfect 6-0 in the month of October. The Pride head for Eastern Nazarene for a non-conference match on Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
