COACH SEALS EARNS 100TH CAREER VICTORY
WALTHAM, Mass. - Emmanuel College Head Coach Denitra Seals notched her 100th career victory this afternoon, when she led the Saints Women's Volleyball Team to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) sweep of Wesleyan University in the second day of action at the Brandeis University Invitational Tournament. Coach Seals is currently in her seventh season has head coach of the Saints, but served as Emmanuel's assistant coach for five years prior to 2007.
WALTHAM, Mass. - Emmanuel College Head Coach Denitra Seals notched her 100th career victory this afternoon, when she led the Saints Women's Volleyball Team to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) sweep of Wesleyan University in the second day of action at the Brandeis University Invitational Tournament. Coach Seals is currently in her seventh season has head coach of the Saints, but served as Emmanuel's assistant coach for five years prior to 2007.
The Saints dropped their opening two matches of the tournament on Friday evening. Emmanuel fell to Tufts University in the first match, 3-0, with set scores of: 10-25, 12-25, 14-25. Emmanuel was later topped by Coast Guard, 3-0, with set scores of: 15-25, 20-25, 9-25.
Emmanuel then rebounded on day two of the tournament by battling to back-to-back victories. The Saints swept Wesleyan for Seals' 100th win and later picked up a 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22) win over Babson College in the final match of the day.
Freshman Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.) led the Emmanuel offense in their opening match vs. Tufts with her 6 kills, while junior Cara Callahan (Medway, Mass.) led the defense with 10 digs. Rookie Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) paced the Saints vs. Coast Guard, tallying 6 kills. Callahan gathered 19 digs and Shannon Dudley (Morro Bay, Calif.) dished out a team-high 17 assists in the effort.
In the Saints' sweep of Wesleyan, Chruscielski led the attack by hitting .500 for the match with 11 kills in 22 swings and zero errors, to go along with her 7 digs. Callahan led the defense with a match-high 14 digs, while Dudley dished out 29 assists in the win. Chruscielski was Emmanuel's kill-leader in their second match of the day vs. Babson. She hammered down 9 kills, while Sarah Colby (West Barnstable, Mass.) added 8 kills and 6 digs. Callahan picked up 18 digs and Dudley handed out 28 helpers.
After a solid tournament in which she totaled 31 digs and 6 service aces, Emmanuel's junior defensive specialist Christine Durkee (Salem, Conn.) landed herslf a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
With the 2-2 stint in the tournament, the Saints now stand at 3-6 on the season. Emmanuel will play next at home, when the Saints host Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday night (9/10) in the 7:00 PM start in the Jean Yawkey Center.
