EMMANUEL PLACES 4 ON ALL-GNAC TENNIS TEAM
Oct. 26, 2009
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced its 2009 All-Conference Women's Tennis Team. Emmanuel College placed four standout players on the highly competitive all-conference team. The Saints honored include Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.), Nory Hayes (Newport, R.I.), Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) and Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.). The four honorees helped lead the Saints to a remarkable 11-5 season, which ended with a loss to Simmons in the GNAC tournament semi-finals last Friday.
Freshman sensation Taylor Dey led Emmanuel's All-Conference selections, as she was chosen 1st Team All-GNAC for singles competition. Dey was one of six GNAC players chosen to the first team. She received the honor along with Kayleigh Holt (Emerson), Katy Hallinan (Simmons), Maile Macleod (Simmons), Sabrina Salmela (Simmons) and Lauren Cameron (Suffolk). Dey finished her stellar freshman year with an overall record of 12-2 in the first singles position for Emmanuel. Both of Dey's two losses of the season came via GNAC Player and Rookie of the Year Sabrina Salmela from Simmons. Dey was honored several times during the course of the season, as she was selected GNAC Player of the Week (9/14), GNAC Rookie of the Week (10/19) and named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll twice (9/28 and 10/5).
Senior co-captain Nory Hayes received 2nd Team All-GNAC honors. Hayes wrapped up her senior season with a 10-4 record in singles play and a 9-7 record in doubles competition. Hayes, who has been a four-year standout for the Saints, finished the 2009 season with an overall mark of 19-11.
Megan Harrington joined Hayes on the 2nd Team All-GNAC. Harrington, a junior on the squad, is in her 2nd season of competition at Emmanuel. She played singles matches in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions this season and finished the 2009 stint with a 10-4 mark in singles play. Harrington also posted a tremendous doubles record, going 12-3 on the season and competing with five different partners this year. Harrington was named the GNAC Player of the Week on 10/5 and was also Emmanuel's selection for the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team this year. Harrington excels in the classroom as well, as she was an Academic All-Conference selection last year.
Rookie Jenna Reid was also named to the 2nd Team All-GNAC for Emmanuel. Reid primarily competed in the 4th singles slot for the Saints, but also posted wins at second and third singles this year. Reid finished her freshman collegiate season at 10-4 overall and was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll twice.
Joining Hayes, Harrington and Reid on the 2nd Team were Haley Nutter (JWU), Elyse Allard (Saint Joseph) and Alex Hernandez (Suffolk).
