SAINTS WRAP REGULAR SEASON WITH 7-2 DEFEAT OF LESLEY

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team wrapped up the 2011 regular season with a 7-2 win over visiting Lesley University on Monday night. The non-conference match was played under the lights at the Winsor School. With the win, Emmanuel improves to 12-2 on the season, while Lesley drops to 5-7 overall. The victory was Emmanuel's fourth-straight and the Saints' 12-2 overall record marks Emmanuel's best regular season finish since the 2006 season.
The Saints to cruised to six straight-set wins in the singles action, before moving on to collect one of the three doubles points. Junior Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) topped Lesley's Michelle Side, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 1 singles. Freshman Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) unraveled Nicole Smith, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 2 slot. Sophomore Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) defeated Katie Side, 6-2, 6-0, at 3rd singles. The No. 4 singles win went to Emmanuel junior Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.), who knocked off Christine Constantine, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Emily Scolaro in 5th singles and is now 12-2 on the season. Freshman Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Me.) moved to 11-1 this year with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Hannah Phelan.
The Lynx scored their first points of the match in doubles play. Lesley's Michelle and Katie Side defeated Emmanuel's Lauren Lesko (Plymouth, Mass.) and Alex Jennings (Granby, Conn.), 8-4. Smith and Scolaro then teamed up for an 8-3 win over Emmanuel's Erin Thornton (Worcester, Mass.) and Kelsey Barrasso (Nahant, Mass.). The Saints picked up a win at third doubles, when Christine Cuddemi (Saugus, Mass.) and Taryn Medeiros (Saugus, Mass.) eased past Constantine and Phelan, 8-0.
Emmanuel has earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. The Saints will host 6th-seeded Mount Ida College on Wednesday evening (10/19) at 5:00 PM on the Winsor School Courts.
