WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM SHUTS OUT ALBERTUS MAGNUS, 9-0

New Haven, Conn. - Emmanuel College picked up its sixth win of the season on Monday afternoon, when the Saints topped Albertus Magnus College, 9-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis match. The Falcons played the day with just four players and were thus able to compete in only two doubles matches and four singles matches. Emmanuel swept all of the matches and picked up forfeit wins in the remaining matches unplayable matches en route to the 9-0 win.
Freshman Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) played No. 1 singles for the Saints and defeated Nanette Arencibia in straight sets without giving up a point, 6-0, 6-0. Emily Resnevic (Manville, R.I.) downed Sandybell Anorga, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 2 singles for the Saints. Lauren Lesko (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up her second singles win of the season, defeating Chantal Simmons, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. Junior Erin Thornton (Worcester, Mass.) continued her unbeaten streak with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sharina Luna at No. 4 singles. Emmanuel gathered two forfeit wins at 5th and 6th singles.
In doubles action, Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) and Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) defeated Arencibia and Anorga, 8-0, in first doubles. Brittany Rothstein (Tiverton, R.I.) and Victoria Trull (Lowell, Mass) picked up an 8-0 win over Simmons and Luna in second doubles. A forfeit point went to the Saints in third doubles and Emmanuel cruised to the 9-0 win.
Emmanuel is now 6-4 on the season and 5-2 in league play heading into tomorrow afternoon's conference rivalry with Emerson College. The Saints will face tough competition, when the team takes on the Lions on their home courts at Pine Manor College in a 3:30pm start.
