UNDEFEATED VIKINGS DOWN SAINTS IN WOMEN'S TENNIS ACTION

Salem, Mass. - The Salem State Vikings continued their impressive undefeated run when they topped the Emmanuel College Saints 7-2, winning their eighth straight match of the season. The Vikings dominated singles play winning five of the six matches to up their record to 8-0 on the season. The non-conference loss dropped the Saints to 4-4 on the year.
Sophomore Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) won first singles over Alicia Poore (Stoneham, Mass.) 7-6, 6-4 to record the Saints' only point in singles action. Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass), Carly Muniz (Gloucester, Mass.), Patricia Quartararo, (Lexington, Mass.), and Jess Spinale (Saugus, Mass.) all posted straight-set wins, as Salem State swept the remaining five matches.
The Vikings also took two out of three doubles matches. Poore and Michelle McEewen (Billerica, Mass) defeated Dey and Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.), 9-8, while Quartararo and Anna Yaskell, (Stockholm, Sweden) won 8-3 over Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) and Kate Biffinger (Avon, Conn.). Emmanuel picked up a win at second doubles, when senior captain Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) and freshman Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) combined for an 8-5 victory and gave the Saints' their second point of the night.
Salem State will host UMass Boston in an important Little East conference match at home on Saturday, October 9th beginning at 1:00 PM. Emmanuel will host Mount Ida College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday at 2:30pm. This is the Saints' last regular season home match of the season and the two seniors on the Emmanuel squad (Megan Harrington and Alexandra Shakra) will be honored prior to the start of the match.
