WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM OVERPOWERS BECKER

Boston, Mass. - The Saints Tennis Team took care of visiting Becker College on Tuesday night. Emmanuel won all three doubles matches and four of the six singles events to defeat the Hawks, 7-2. This was the Saints' second straight victory, as they improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-2 in GNAC play.
The doubles team of junior captain Nory Hayes (Newport, RI) and sophomore Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA) beat their 1st doubles opponents, 8-3. Senior Rachel Strauss (Westwood, MA) and junior Caitrin Dunn (Toms River, NJ) teamed up for a win at 2nd doubles, 8-2. The undefeated sophomore team of Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Brianna Murphy (Wilbraham, MA) picked up another win at 3rd doubles, 8-6. Kelly and Murphy were also named to the GNAC Women's Tennis Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in last week's matches.
In singles action, Strauss defeated Becker's Allison Flynnm 6-4, 7-6. Hayes fell to Becker's Catherine Sivret, 2-6, 7-5, and 10-4 in the super tie-breaker. Emmanuel's sophomore Megan Harrington (Leicester, MA) swept Megan Nessan, 6-1 and 6-2, for the Saints' 5th point of the match. The Hawks picked up another point at fourth singles, when sophomore Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, NH) fell to Danielle Stryker, 7-6 and 6-2.
Emmanuel then wrapped up the match with victories in the fifth and sixth singles slots. Dunphy won, 6-3 and 6-1, and rookie Victoria Trull (Lowell, MA) smashed her opponent, 6-1 and 6-1.
The Saints will play again on Thursday night, when they travel to Worcester, MA for a non-conference meeting with the Cougars of Clark University. The match will begin at 5pm.
