SAINTS SWEEP BLUE JAYS IN GNAC WOMEN'S TENNIS

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team cruised to a 9-0 shutout win over the Saint Joseph College Blue Jays in the opening match of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Sunday afternoon. The Saints swept all six singles matches and the three doubles matches to come away with their second victory of the season on the Winsor School tennis courts. Emmanuel improved to 2-0 on the season with the win.
The two GNAC teams began the day with three doubles matches. Emmanuel's Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) topped Saint Joseph's Ali Lienhop and Gianna Gurga, 8-5, in the first doubles pairing. Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) teamed up with Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) for an 8-0 win over Kameshia Cooper and Shawanna Jefferson in second doubles. Kate Biffinger (Avon, Conn.) and Emily Resnevic (Manville, R.I.) came away with a straight-set victory over Sorina Chisolm and April Loteczka in third doubles.
The singles matches featured Dey battling to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win over Lienhop in the first slot. Harrington grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gurga in second singles. Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) and Konecnik slammed Cooper and Jefferson, respectively, with both Emmanuel players winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at 3rd and 4th singles. Senior Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, N.H.) notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Chisholm in fifth singles, while Woznicki picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Loteczka in sixth singles.
Emmanuel will play again on Tuesday (9/14) at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. at 5pm.
