WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS MOUNT IDA, 9-0
The Emmanuel College women’s tennis team collected its fifth consecutive victory Monday evening, downing Mount Ida College, 9-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Winsor Courts. With the victory, the Saints improve to 6-3 overall on the year and remain unbeaten in GNAC play at 3-0 while the loss drops the Mustangs to 1-7 and 0-3 in the GNAC.
BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's tennis team collected its fifth consecutive victory Monday evening, downing Mount Ida College, 9-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Winsor Courts. With the victory, the Saints improve to 6-3 overall on the year and remain unbeaten in GNAC play at 3-0 while the loss drops the Mustangs to 1-7 and 0-3 in the GNAC.
The most exciting match of the evening was the No. 2 doubles contest featuring EC sophomores Lexi Rogers (North Hampton, N.H.) and Kelsey Barrasso (Nahant, Mass.) against Ida's pairing of seniors Kayla Horton (Brockton, Mass.) and Danielle Riley (Barre, Vt.). The Mustang duo pulled ahead in the match, 7-4, before the Saints battled back to take five consecutive games to complete the sweep of the match with the 9-7 win.
Sophomore Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) continued her solid play out of the No. 1 singles spot, downing sophomore Patti Ann Doucette (Lynn, Mass.), 6-1, 6-0 while junior Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) was strong for the Saints in the No. 2 singles spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win over sophomore Julia Pacliuca (Saugus, Mass.).
Emmanuel did not drop a set in its No. 3, 4, 5 & 6 singles matches, collecting 6-0, 6-0 wins including a golden match by sophomore Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in the No. 5 singles match. Hewes did not allow a single point, scoring 48 consecutive points without making any errors en route to the victory.
The Saints also got strong outings from freshmen Carolina Santamaria (North Providence, R.I.) and senior Christine Cuddemi (Saugus, Mass.) who teamed up for a convincing 8-0 victory out of the No. 3 doubles pairing.
Emmanuel will return to action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Milton, Mass. for a non-conference tilt against Curry College while the Mustangs are back on the court the same day, hosting Newbury College at 3:00 PM.
