With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Saints slip to 1-3 with the loss.
Led by Gaby Suriano (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) posting an 8-2 win over Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) and Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) at No. 1 singles, Clark got off to a solid start. That duo was followed by Kortney Kelley (Barnstable, Mass.) and Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.) upending Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) and Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), 8-3, at No. 2 and Martha Ziemer (Arlington, Mass.) and Maggie Swann (Portland, Maine) topping Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) and Katrina Gaddis (Wayland, Mass.), 9-7, at third doubles.
Singles action saw only Suriano win in straight sets for the Cougars with her topping Hadlock 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. Sachs won a three-set battle with Woznicki at No. 2, (6-1, 4-6, 6-2) and Swann followed suit at No. 3 in her matchup with Reid, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) was also locked in a duel with Hewes, dropping the first set 2-6, before rallying to take the final two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Konecnik was a straight-set winner at No. 4 for the Saints, taking down Martha Ziemer 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Daniela Tueme (Easton, Mass.) also won in straight-sets over Lauren Ziemer at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
