ANGEL TO HEAD SAINTS' SOFTBALL PROGRAM
June 16, 2011
The Emmanuel College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Hannah Angel as the College's new Head Softball Coach. Angel will take over the reigns previously held by Michelle Morales, who stepped down after four years with the program. Coach Angel is excited to begin work with the Saints, who went 12-23 this past season and held an 8-16 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Angel will take over an experienced Emmanuel team, which returns all 15 players from the 2011 squad.
Prior to joining the Emmanuel staff, Angel spent two years as an Assistant Coach at neighboring Simmons College. While with the Sharks, Angel obtained a Master's Degree from Simmons' School of Social Work, while helping the softball program to two of its most winning records in program history.
Angel received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2008. While at UNC Greensboro, Angel was a four-year pitcher for the Division I Spartans. During her time as a collegiate student-athlete, Angel was an All-Conference selection and was ranked among the top 5 in the Southern Conference for earned run average, innings pitched, wins, and strikeouts during both her junior and senior seasons. Angel pitched against the 2008 USA Olympic Team, while on its Tour to Beijing. She is also ranked 3rd all-time in strikeouts at UNCG.
As a high school player, Angel led Forbush High School to 3 North Carolina State Championships and was named the North Carolina Division II Player of the Year twice. In 2003, she was featured in Sport Illustrated for her softball achievements. In the off-season, Angel has experience with individual pitching lessons and instruction at college softball camps.
Emmanuel's Director of Athletics Pam Roecker is excited about her Department's new hire. "Coach Angel comes in as the perfect coach, at the perfect time in our program's history. Her passion for the sport and knowledge of the game, combined with her outstanding collegiate playing career and competitive spirit are going to take our program to a different level. Our veteran student-athletes, as well as our great incoming recruiting class, are excited to get to work with Coach Angel in preparing for a very successful 2011-12 season."
