SOFTBALL NOTCHES TWO MORE SPRING BREAK WINS; STUNS #15 MONTCLAIR STATE 7-5
CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The Emmanuel College softball team posted two more spring break wins during action in the Gene Cusic Softball Classic. On Tuesday, March 10, the Saints stunned No. 15 Montclair State University with a 7-5 victory, posting the program’s first-ever victory over a nationally ranked opponent during spring break action. Earlier today, EC captured a 9-3 win over Mount Mary University in the third game of a triple-header.

On Tuesday, March 10, the Saints stunned No. 15 Montclair State University with a 7-5 victory, posting the program's first-ever victory over a nationally ranked opponent during spring break action. Earlier today, EC captured a 9-3 win over Mount Mary University in the third game of a triple-header.
Against Montclair State, the Saints jumped out to a 6-0 lead following a five-run third inning powered by clutch hitting from sophomore first baseman Susie Kieselback (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior outfielder Marianne Halas (Lynn, Mass.). Both drove in two runs in the inning while freshman catcher Charlotte Powers (Peabody, Mass.) added an RBI single in the frame.
The six runs would prove to be enough as sophomore pitcher Jill Kilcoyne (Worcester, Mass.) plowed through the Red Hawks line up, allowing just one run on no hits and three walks over five innings of work. Sophomore Samantha Adams (Sanford, Maine) tossed the final two frames for Emmanuel as the Saints were able to withstand a late push for the 7-5 win.
Against Mount Mary University, the Saints broke open a close contest with four runs in the third inning to take control of the action for good. Leading 3-2 entering the bottom of the third, Emmanuel sent eight batters to the plate, collecting four runs on three hits including a two-RBI single by junior shortstop Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.).
Freshman outfield Brooke Ames (Boylston, Mass.) posted a pair of hits in the win including her first collegiate hit in the second inning of play in the win. Powers would also stay hot at the plate, going 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
On the hill, junior Val Kiers (West Warwick, R.I.) tossed the first three innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out two. Sophomore Brenna Gilmore (San Carlos, Calif.) tossed the final four innings to pick up the win, allowing four hits and an unearned run while recording four strikeouts.
The Saints return to action tomorrow for its final two spring break contests, opening with Rockford University at 9:00 AM followed by an 11:00 AM tilt against Wilmington (OH).
