THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College women's soccer team used strong play from a group of first years to fuel Wednesday evening's 3-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- First year forward Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.) scored just 3:04 into the match to give Emmanuel an early 1-0 lead on her ninth goal of the year. Dullaghan received a through-ball from fellow first-year Liz McCormick (Cumberland, R.I.) and slotted home a shot to the far side of the goal to get the scoring started.
- Minutes after subbing into the match, first year forward Maya Daryanani (Bridgewater, Mass.) found the back of the net for her second goal of the year in the 34th minute of play. McCormick slipped Daryanani in front of the box and the rookie converted the right-footed strike to the far post to double the EC lead to 2-0.
- Emmanuel controlled the stat line in the opening stanza, outshooting the Falcons by an 8-1 margin as well as owning the corner kick edge, 3-0.
- Albertus Magnus picked up its intensity to start the second half, setting the tone with some physical play to keep the game close. The Falcons outshot the Saints in the closing period, 8-3, but Emmanuel first-year keeper Patricia Kirejczyk (Ansonia, Conn.) stood her group making to keep the visitors off the board.
- The Saints put the game away in the 80th minute as Dullaghan netted her team-leading 10th goal of the year for an insurance tally to move the score to 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
