BOSTON, Mass. - Following a national search, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Visinho as the Head Women's Soccer Coach. Visinho becomes the sixth Head Coach in program history and will take over the day-to-day operations immediately.
"I would like to thank Director of Athletics & Recreation Brendan McWilliams and Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Rissmeyer for this amazing opportunity," said Visinho. "I am very grateful to become the next women's soccer coach at Emmanuel and am so humbled and excited to have the opportunity to serve this program, these players and this school."
Prior to Emmanuel, Visinho served as the Associate Head Coach for the University of Massachusetts Boston Women's Soccer program for 10 seasons where his primary duties with the Beacons included assisting with team and individual coaching on the field, video editing responsibilities and serving as the general recruiting coordinator.
While at UMB, Visinho played a major part in helping the staff lead the Beacons to its most successful seasons in program history including the programs first berth into the NCAA tournament, three Little East Conference regular season championships, three ECAC Tournament berths and a total of nine LEC tournament appearances. In his tenure at UMass Boston, Visinho helped coach numerous players to All-Conference and All-Region accolades including the program's first All-American. During his time on the harbor campus, Visinho helped guide the Beacons to six consecutive winning seasons ('09-'14) and an 86-31-13 mark (.711 winning percentage) during that stretch.
"I will be forever grateful for the unbelievable support that I have received from Amy Zombeck and the UMass Boston community as I embark on this new chapter of my life," said Visinho. "I'm delighted to be working for an academic institution like Emmanuel and I am thrilled to join them in reaching new heights."
Prior to his arrival at UMass Boston, he was the head girl's soccer coach at Silver Lake Regional High School for five years, where he led the Lakers to the first and only Patriot League title in school history in 2006.
Visinho has also been a long time coach with the Liverpool FC International Academy in Massachusetts. He coaches multiple Elite and NPL girl's teams, and serves as a college recruitment advisor for the club.
Visinho's coaching experience extends to the professional ranks as well. From 2005-07 he was a member of the Bay State Select franchise's staff of the Women's Professional Soccer League (WPSL). Here he mentored some of the best female players in the world including several current NWSL players, and former Brazilian National Team star Daniella.
He has also coached for several premier clubs in Massachusetts over the last 15 years including the Taunton Eagles, South Shore Select and Crusaders United. In addition he serves as a Camp Director for several camps throughout the Bay State.
Visinho takes over the program after one season under the helm of Co-Head Coaches Dan Campagna and Keith Rogers. Under Campagna and Rogers, the Saints posted an 11-8-1 overall record while registering an 8-2-1 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Saints had three players named to the 2017 GNAC All-Conference team and Campagna was named the GNAC Coach of the Year.
"We're very excited to have Coach Visinho join the Emmanuel family," said Campagna who will remain on Visinho's staff as an Assistant Coach while retaining a full-time spot in the department as an Assistant Athletic Director. "Greg's commitment and passion to the game of soccer will elevate our program to the next level and I'm really looking forward to working with him in a coaching capacity once again."
Visinho currently has his NSCAA Premier and NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 2 diplomas as well as licensed from the USSF and Coerver Coaching.
Visinho will oversee all soccer related activities at Emmanuel during the Saints non-traditional spring season. Visinho and the Saints return to regular-season action next fall when Emmanuel opens the 2018 slate on August, 31 hosting Emerson College.
